England National Cricket Team white-ball head coach Matthew Mott's position in the team has come under serious scanner after the team's debacle in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 against India. As per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that Managing Director Rob Key will be soon taking the call on it.

Matthew Mott had kept the minimum expectation of reaching the semi-final but after the team lost against India, he stated that he was the right man to take the team forward. He has been under a more serious scanner now, especially after the team's poor outings in the last few events.

England had a debacle in the ICC World Cup 2023 and now failed to defend the T20 World Cup title. But the fact is that the Jos Buttler-led side defeated only one Test-playing opponent across the tournament, which has been seen as a cause of concern for the team.

Matthew Mott, who is two years into a four-year contract, will be the key point of Rob Key's review meeting for the T20 World Cup 2024. Some of the questions that will be at the fray in the meeting reportedly will be:

"Can Mott reinvigorate a side which appears to have stagnated? Are England making genuine progress under Mott's leadership? If not, is there an obvious replacement? And would they want to take on the scrutiny of a job where a semi-final World Cup exit is a sackable offence?"

The reports also added that Rob Key will be reviewing that if Matthew Mott is the right man to take England forward in the white-ball or not. The team will be undergoing the transition phase and it will be reviewed if the current coach has a clear vision for what comes next.

Jos Buttler's position as captain of the white-ball team is also under scanner

The reports also claimed that Jos Buttler's position as the captain will be also under scanner. But the place of him as the leader of the team will be all dependent on him if he wants to continue or not. But Rob Key knows the quality that keeper-batter brings in and he still will be a key player for the team

It is also learned that senior players Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan will not be given opportunities now. The ECB feels that their time is up and there are high chances that Jonny Bairstow and Mark Wood also won't be playing the next T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in early 2026.

England is now looking to rebuild and bring some fresh faces in who will bat around Harry Brook and should bat at No. 3 or 4. Along with him Phil Salt too will be part of the team. The team will be picked based on the performances in the Hundred, which will begin next month. It remains to be seen what will be the future of the team in the white-ball going ahead.
