Karnataka will be led by opener Mayank Agarwal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, which begins on October 11.
Karnataka’s Group C matches will be held in Mohali. Mayank takes over for veteran batter Manish Pandey.
There have been some changes even though the team has proven itself. Chethan LR, a batter in the top order, received his first senior team call-up as compensation for his reliability. The 22-year-old right-handed batter scored more runs than Agarwal in the most recent KSCA Maharaja Trophy T20 competition. He was the leading scorer in the KSCA T20 league (259).
The teams’ strengths are back down to 15 from 20 the previous season after Covid-19 restrictions were lifted.
Both medium-pacer Manoj Bhandage and wicketkeeper Luvnith Sisodia, who made their debuts in 2019 before being dropped, are back in the lineup. The former champions, who will be playing in pace-friendly conditions in Mohali, have chosen to field three spinners instead of KC Cariappa: K Gowtham, J Suchith, and Shreyas Gopal.
Given that their stalwart Prasidh Krishna is still recovering from an injury, V Koushik will be in charge of keeping things moving. Along with Vyshak Vijaykumar and Venkatesh M, Vidwath Kaverappa, who made his first-class debut last season, has been called up. Fielding coach Deepak Chougule is back.
Karnataka is grouped with Kerala, Meghalaya, Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Services, and Haryana. Karnataka lost to Tamil Nadu in the final last season.
