India's pace bowling sensation Mayank Yadav has been included in a special camp before the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, beginning on October 6 in Gwalior. The special camp is being held at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

The camp is not for all the players but for a few selected players only. Alongside Mayank Yadav, the other players in the camp are Hardik Pandya, Abhishek Sharma, and Riyan Parag.

Mayank Yadav in IPL 2024

Mayank Yadav has been injured midway through the IPL 2024 season where he played 4 matches for Lucknow Super Giants and picked up 7 wickets at an average of 12.14 and an economy rate of 6.99.

Since then, he has not played a professional cricket match and has mostly spent time at the NCA as he continues his recovery from a recurring side strain. He is also in BCCI's fast bowling contracts list where he is under the supervision of the board and the NCA.

Mayank made a name for himself when he clocked some stunning speeds during the IPL 2024 season. He clocked speeds of over 150 kph consistently which made him a popular name among the viewers. The youngster clocked a ball at 156.7 kph against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024 which was also the fastest ball of the season.

Usually, such kind of teeraway fast bowlers are rare in India which is the reason why Mayank was seen as an exciting prospect for the future. However, constant injuries have hampered his career and he hasn't played competitive cricket since.

Hardik Pandya, Abhishek Sharma, and Riyan Parag were also in the camp

As India looks to build a strong core of fast bowlers for the future, Mayank Yadav remains firmly in the plans of the selectors.

A BCCI source confirmed that the selectors could give Mayank an opportunity for the T20Is against Bangladesh. The source also confirmed that Hardik Pandya and Abhishek Sharma will also be there in the special camp.

"Mayank (Yadav) hasn't complained of any pain over the last month or so. He is bowling full tilt at the NCA. The selectors are interested to see how ready he is for international cricket," a BCCI source was quoted as saying by TOI.

"With the long Test season ahead, the selectors are keen on trying new faces for the T20Is against Bangladesh. (Hardik) Pandya has not played competitive cricket for nearly a couple of months. Even Abhishek (Sharma) needs some quality practice," the source added.

The Test players are likely to be rested for the T20I series against Bangladesh with an eye on their workload ahead of the grueling red-ball season. This will open up a few slots in the squad and Mayank could be added if everything goes fine.

Mayank Yadav likely to make India debut soon

According to the TOI, Mayank Yadav has been asked to start with T20 cricket first on his road to comeback. The source also shared the status of Mayank Yadav's current fitness levels where he is bowling close to 20 overs with the white ball in three separate spells.

The source also confirmed that the youngster has a strong chance of being selected for the T20Is against Bangladesh.

"Mayank is bowling close to 20 overs with the white ball in three separate spells in a day. There is a strong chance of selectors picking him for the Bangladesh series after seeing him in the camp at NCA. (Ajit) Agarkar is slated to travel to Bengaluru to attend the inauguration of the new NCA," the source said.

Although the selectors have asked Mayank Yadav to start with T20 cricket, they do not want him to be limited to just one format. The 22-year-old pacer can be asked to be with the Indian team for the three-match Test series against New Zealand just for the experience.

A fast bowler like Mayank Yadav can be worth of gold for India in the future. However, the selectors and the team management need to look after him carefully to ensure a long career for the fast bowler.
