Meg Lanning, the captain of Australia’s cricket team, has decided to break from international play indefinitely.
In the most recent Commonwealth Games 2022 final, Lanning led Australia to victory over the Indian women’s cricket team to take home the gold medal.
The Australian women’s cricket team issued a statement confirming Lanning’s decision to take an indefinite break, saying both they and Cricket Australia backed it.
“Effective immediately, Meg Lanning will go on an indefinite leave of absence. Meg has decided to step away from the game for personal reasons, and there is no set return date. CA and our team fully support Meg’s choice and send their best wishes to her, “Australia women’s cricket team said in a statement.
Meg Lanning will miss the upcoming edition of The Hundred:
Lanning will not be able to represent the Trent Rockets in the upcoming edition of The Hundred. A decision regarding Lanning’s participation in the forthcoming Australian domestic summer will be made in due course, but CA will continue to support her.
“After a busy couple of years, I have decided to take a step back to enable me to spend time focusing on myself,” Lanning said in a statement regarding the choice. I appreciate CA’s and my teammates’ assistance and ask that my privacy be respected at this time.”
Lanning, 30, has participated in 6 Test matches and scored 345 runs. She has also played 100 ODIs, scoring 4463 runs at an average of 53.13, with 15 hundred and 19 fifty-sevens, and 124 T20 International matches, where she has scored 3211 runs with 2 hundred and 15 fifties.
