MI Emirates Appoint Shane Bond As Head Coach For UAE's ILT20, Parthiv Patel, Vinay Kumar, James Franklin Also Named In Coaching Staff

Former New Zealand National Cricket Team speedster Shane Bond, who is Mumbai Indians’ bowling coach in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been appointed as the head coach of the MI Emirates in UAE’s International League T20 (ILT20), announced the franchise on Saturday, September 17.

The International League T20 (ILT20), which will be a 6-team tournament, is all set to commence in 2023 and it will be a 34-match event as each team will be playing the others twice in the league, followed by four playoff matches. The tournament will be played from January 6 to February 12.

Meanwhile, former India National Cricket Team and Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper-batsman, Parthiv Patel, who is MI’s talent scout, has been appointed as the batting coach of the MI Emirates while former India National Cricket Team and Mumbai Indians player, Vinay Kumar, who is also MI’s talent scout, has been named as the bowling coach of the side.

Both the aforementioned players, who were part of Mumbai Indians’ title-winning campaigns in 2015 and 2017, will be making their debut as coaches in UAE’s ILT20.

Also, former New Zealand National Cricket Team and Mumbai Indians all-rounder, James Franklin, will be the fielding coach of the MI Emirates side. Additionally, former India National Cricket Team all-rounder Robin Singh will be the general manager of cricket.

In an official statement released by the Mumbai Indians (MI), the newly appointed MI Emirates head coach Bond said:

“It’s a privilege to be appointed the Head Coach of MI Emirates. It’s always exciting to build a new team and I’m looking forward to furthering the MI legacy and inspiring our players to take the game to new heights.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, Mr. Akash M. Ambani, said:

“I welcome Shane, Robin, Parthiv, Vinay and James to their new roles in MI Emirates. Having been an integral part of MI for various periods of time, the coaching team is exceptionally well-versed in the values that make MI what it is. I’m sure they would be able to build MI Emirates as a team that attracts the love of passionate MI fans.”
