Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has backed senior India all-rounder Hardik Pandya to stay strong ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies.

Wasim Jaffer took to X (formerly Twitter) to extend his support towards Hardik Pandya after the Mumbai Indians got knocked out of IPL 2024 last night. MI's 4-wicket loss against Lucknow Super Giants means that the 5-time champions are officially out of the race for play-offs this season. It was the first season since the 2013 season that Rohit Sharma did not captain the franchise.

Wasim Jaffer says Hardik Pandya's trolls will sing his name soon

As we all know, Hardik Pandya has become a subject of brutal trolling by fans on social media ever since his move back to the Mumbai Indians was made official. His comeback to the franchise was not really a matter of controversy but his appointment as the captain in place of Rohit Sharma was the entire point of discussion.

Mumbai Indians', Gujarat Titans' and Rohit Sharma's fans took lethal jabs at Hardik Pandya on social media and the all-rounder was personally attacked. Throughout the course of IPL 2024, Pandya has found it difficult to find support from his own fan base as well as the MI fan base.

The trolling and personal attacks on Hardik Pandya directly contributed to his poor performances this IPL season. Moreover, players of his own team were in disagreement with him. Most notably it was Akash Madhwal, who had clearly ignored Pandya's instruction to listen closely to former skipper Rohit Sharma.

The team was not in sync and the fans were more like haters for Hardik and in such a case, one can't expect the team to qualify for the play-offs.

All of these were captured by Wasim Jaffer in his latest tweet. Jaffer stated that people can criticize Hardik Pandya as much as they can but nothing can justify the way he has been attacked on a personal level. The former opening batter asked the all-rounder, who will vice-captain India at the T20 WC, to stay strong and stay prepared for the upcoming challenge.

Lastly, Jaffer predicted that Hardik Pandya's trolls will sing his name soon when he delivers match-winning knocks for India at the WC.

"Criticise his performance as much as you want but it's extremely disappointing to see the constant personal trolling and attacks. Stay strong @hardikpandya7 next month you'll be playing crucial knocks in WC and the same people will be singing your praise. #LSGvMI #T20WorldCup." - Wasim Jaffer wrote on his X handle.

Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah are to fly to USA before May 25

Meanwhile, after MI's exit from IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah will be flying over to the USA for the T20 WC by May 25th to start their preparation. The trio will be joined by other selected players, whose teams will not qualify for the play-offs. Those players might include Virat Kohli, Mohammad Siraj, Rishabh Pant, and Axar Patel among others.
