KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) played an away game against the Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 67th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) on Friday, May 17, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

At the post-match presentation ceremony, KL Rahul said that they had a very disappointing season despite having a strong team. KL Rahul elaborated:

"Very disappointing. At the beginning of the season I thought we had a very strong team and we have all bases covered. Couple of injuries which happen to every team every season hurt us a little bit. We didn't play well enough collectively. When the bowlers had a good game, the batters didn't. We just didn't come together as much as we have wanted. This is the kind of a game we were looking where the batters are scoring and the bowlers are doing their job but couldn't."

KL Rahul opened up about how LSG have invested a lot in the young pacers and stated:

"The franchise has really invested in the young Indian bowlers. Mayank and Yudhvir were sent to South Africa to train with Morne Morkel our coach. They got good facilities and treatment through the year so they could play this season."

Talking about his own batting position, KL Rahul said that his role depends on the requirements of the team. KL Rahul said:

"There's not much T20 cricket coming up now. Its a season where I have learnt where I stand and how can I do better and get back in the team. My role depends on what the team wants. I have did that my whole career."

"We would have wanted Pooran to bat higher but the senior players are better suited to absorb the pressure. When Stoinis was at number 3, we thought it was better to have the hard hitters down the order," he further said.

KL Rahul signed off by saying that he is now supporting Sharma ji ka beta (Rohit Sharma) and his team for the T20 World Cup 2024. KL Rahul said:

"I think I am on my father in law's team now as we are cheering for Sharma ji ka beta and his team for the upcoming World Cup."

Lucknow Super Giants Also Defeated Mumbai Indians In Previous IPL 2024 Meeting

The first IPL 2024 match between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants was on April 30 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Winning the toss and electing to bowl first in the match, LSG bowlers showcased their true class. They handed early blows to Mumbai Indians by dismissing Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya in 5.2 overs when the score of the team was just 27 runs.

Ishan Kishan tried to stabilize the innings by adding 53 runs with Nehal Wadhera but he was soon dismissed for 32 and LSG looked in a dominant position in the match. Wadhera and Tim David tried to fight but they could only add 32 runs in partnership and MI were restricted to 144/7 in their 20 overs. For LSG, Mohsin Khan (2), Marcus Stoinis (1), Naveen-ul-Haq (1), Mayank Yadav (1), and Ravi Bishnoi (1) were among the wickets.

Chasing the target, LSG lost a wicket in the first over, but KL Rahul (28) scored crucial runs to not let his team lose momentum. Then, Marcus Stoinis (62) smashed a brilliant half-century and despite losing wickets on regular intervals, Lucknow finished off the run-chase in 19.2 overs to win by 4 wickets.
