Former Australia National Cricket Team skipper Michael Clarke has predicted the scoreline for the five-match Test series between the India National Cricket Team and the England National Cricket Team.

Michael Clarke backed the young Team India to register a 3-2 series victory over the Ben Stokes-led Team England in their own backyard and create history.

Shubman Gill to make Test captaincy debut in England

Newly appointed India Test skipper Shubman Gill will be making his red-ball captaincy debut in England. Leading India in the Test match against the Three Lions will be a big challenge for Gill as India have historically struggled in the country.

Only a few Indian captains - Ajit Wadekar, Kapil Dev, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli - have won a Test match in England. And out of those, only Ajit Wadekar (1971: 1-0), Kapil Dev (1986: 2-0), and Rahul Dravid (2007: 1-0) have won the Test series in England.

Overall, Kohli has won most matches as an Indian Captain in England, with three wins to his name in 10 matches, and Kapil Dev is the only other Indian skipper with 2 or more Test wins in England.

It’s going to be 3-2. There you go. I’m going for India - Michael Clarke

Meanwhile, Michael Clarke has backed the Shubman Gill-led side to clinch a 3-2 series win over England. He said that Team India are highly inexperienced in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, but they have other players who can do the job. He elaborated:

"It’s going to be 3-2. There you go. I’m going for India. I’m going to watch the Lord’s Test. I’m going to watch India play at Lord’s. So, I am going for India. I want them to win 3-2," Clarke said in an interview with RevSportz.

"Well, yes, I do give them a chance, but it’s a lot more inexperienced team than the one I expected to be on a plane to England. Having no Rohit Sharma, no Virat Kohli, is huge. Players come, players go, people retire and the game moves on. So that does not mean a new captain is the worst thing for India. I’m not saying that. Somebody retires, and that gives somebody else an opportunity," he added.

Michael Clarke speaks on Mohammed Shami's absence in Test setup

The former Australia skipper, Michael Clarke, further spoke about the absence of the premier pacer Mohammed Shami from India's Test setup. He said that the pacer would be a big miss for India and opined that his presence would have brought a positive result for Team India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He said:

"I also saw no [Mohammed] Shami in the squad as well. I think him missing the Australian series was huge, and if he and a fit Bumrah were in Australia, then it would have been a very different series," Michael Clarke said.
