Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has expressed his disagreement with Indian captain Virat Kohli’s proposal of having a best of three finals to decide the winner of the World Test Championship final [WTC].

New Zealand defeated Virat Kohli’s Team India in the inaugural World Test Championship [WTC] final by eight wickets to become the undisputed Champions of Test cricket.

Following the humbling defeat, Virat Kohli batted for having the best of three finals to decide the winners of future World Test Championships.

“I am not in absolute agreement of deciding the best Test side in the world over the course of one game. If it is a Test series, it has to be a test of character over three Tests – which team has the ability to come back in the series, or totally blow away the other team. It can’t just be pressure applied over two days of good cricket and then you suddenly you are not a good Test side anymore. I don’t believe in it,” said Virat Kohli in the post-match presser.

Taking to his Twitter account, Michael Vaughan expressed his disagreement with Virat’s proposal.

“Where in the schedule would it fit in ?? Are the IPL going to reduce the year of the final tournament by 2 weeks so it could fit in ? Doubt it ..: Finals are one off games where teams/individuals know they have to deliver … that’s what makes them so great,”

Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg also agreed with Michael Vaughan.

Hogg wrote on his Twitter account-

“Agree with @MichaelVaughan. Does not get any tougher than one chance. That is the ultimate test. #ICCWTCFinal,” tweeted Hogg.

Notably, the ICC interim CEO Goerge Allardice recently said that having the best of three finals is not practically feasible due to the Future Tour Program.

“The reality of the international cricket schedule is that we’re not going to have that month or so, blocking out a month or so for all the teams in the tournament for a final…,” Allardice told a virtual news conference. “That’s why (a) one-match final was decided upon,”
