Rohit Sharma produced an innings for the ages as he smacked 92 off just 41 balls against Australia to lead India through to the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals. After his swashbuckling innings, social media could not keep quiet as the Indian captain received praise from the cricketing world.

Rohit smashed the left-arm quick Mitchell Starc for 29 runs in the third over of the match. After taking down Starc, he got his eye in and looked in ominous form. Rohit smacked a humongous 100 m-six off Pat Cummins and played a solid slog sweep off Adam Zampa later.

The Indian captain looked set for a well-deserved century but was bowled by Mitchell Starc in the 12th over of the match. He hit 7 fours and 8 huge sixes during his knock to take India to a big total. India's total of 205-5 is the joint-highest total by any team in a T20 World Cup against Australia.

Rohit Sharma's innings was the second-highest individual score for India in a men's T20 World Cup match, just behind Suresh Raina's 101 against South Africa in 2010, which was also played in St. Lucia.

India thrashes Australia, and Afghanistan makes it to the semi-finals

Chasing 206 to win, Australia could reach only 181-7 in 20 overs, thus handing India a 24-run win. Travis Head top-scored for Australia with an excellent knock of 76 off 43 balls. For India, Arshdeep Singh continued his wicket-taking run and picked up 3 wickets while left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with 2-24.

Since Afghanistan won its next game against Bangladesh, Australia have been eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2024. The first semi-final will be played between Afghanistan and South Africa at Trinidad while the second semi-final will see a repeat of the last T20 World Cup semi-final, where India will face England.
