Indian U-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull began his Ranji Trophy stint with a stunning century for Delhi against Tamil Nadu. Speaking about the youngster, former England captain Michael Vaughan predicted big things in the future for Dhull.

Dhull opened alongside Dhruv Shorey and played attacking cricket right from the start. He went on to score 113 off 150 balls that included 18 fours. The knock came when Delhi had lost two wickets inside the first three overs itself.

Dhull partnered up with Jonty Sidhu to stitch a 119-run association that rescued the innings for Delhi. Although he got out in his quest to keep the scoreboard ticking, Dhull had already made a great first impression.

Speaking about him, Vaughan said: “100 on his first class debut … Yash Dhull is a player we will be seeing lots of over the next few years … #India #RanjiTrophy.”

Here’s Michael Vaughan’s tweet:

En route to the century, Dhull enjoyed a reprieve on 97 when pacer M Mohammed had him dismissed but replays confirmed that Mohammed had overstepped. Dhull made full use of his second life and went on to score the century and join Sachin Tendulkar among players who scored a hundred on Ranji debut.

After Dhull fell, Delhi slipped to 291/7 to end the day with Lalit Yadav batting on 45 and Simarjeet Singh playing on 16. As many as three bowlers took two wickets each for Tamil Nadu on the first day.

In addition, Dhull also managed to bag himself a contract with Delhi Capitals (DC). He is just one of the three U-19 players who joined IPL franchises, the other two being Raj Bawa and Rajvardhan Hangargekar.
