RCB's former Director of Cricket Mike Hesson has picked Rohit Sharma's innings against Australia in the Super 8 stage as the best knock of the T20 World Cup 2024. Hesson also had the option of Kohli's brilliant knock of 76 runs in the final against South Africa.

But Hesson was clear in his choice and chose Rohit's knock as the best one. Rohit Sharma's knock was crucial in the sense that Australia had been India's bogey team before the match. India had lost to Australia in crucial matches like the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final and the ODI World Cup 2023 final.

Before the start of the match, India were under huge pressure to beat Australia. The Indian captain took responsibility and played a whirlwind knock to put India in command.

Mike Hesson chooses Rohit Sharma's knock as the best in T20 World Cup 2024

During a show on Sky Sports NZ, Mike Hesson spoke about the best innings in the T20 World Cup 2024. Hesson reckoned that Rohit Sharma's innings of 92 off 41 balls in India's last Super 8 stage match against Australia was the best knock of the tournament.

"Rohit Sharma's 92 runs innings against Australia was the Best innings in T20 World Cup 2024," Hesson said on Sky Sports NZ.

It was an excellent game of cricket but it was headlined by Rohit Sharma's whirlwind innings. India were put into bat first by a determined Australia who were desperately looking for a win to qualify for the semi-finals.

Rohit Sharma showed a batting masterclass

Australia started well and dismissed Virat Kohli cheaply for a fifth-ball-duck. However, Rohit Sharma decided to attack from the third over. He took Mitchell Starc to the cleaners and smashed him to all the corners of the ground.

Rohit smashed an astonishing 4 sixes and a four off Starc's over and collected 29 runs from it. It was the start of a destructive batting performance from the Indian captain.

Apart from Josh Hazlewood, Rohit was severe on all the Australian bowlers and just batted in an aggressive mode. Be it Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, or Marcus Stoinis, Rohit Sharma was in scintillating form against all of them. His six-hitting capability was on display and it looked like he would go on to make a big hundred.

Rohit Sharma powered India to a winning total

However, it was Mitchell Starc who came back into the attack for his third over to dismiss Rohit Sharma. It was just the 12th over of the innings and Rohit had already scored 92 runs. He was dismissed for 92 off just 41 balls, which included 7 fours and 8 sixes.

Rohit had taken India to a position where they could aim for a big score and India reached 205-5 in 20 overs. Chasing a daunting target to win, Australia were on track till Travis Head was on the crease. But as he was dismissed, the game turned on its head. Head scored 76 off 43 balls as Australia were reduced to 181-7 in 20 overs.
