"Mike Hussey Debuted At 30": Peter Handscomb Aims To Be Part Of Australia's Squad For The 2023 India Tour

Peter Handscomb has offered his services to the Test team for the upcoming India tour. The right-handed hitter admitted talking with head selector George Bailey about securing a Test selection.

During Australia’s four-Test tour of India in 2016–17, Handscomb, one of their finest players against spin, participated. The Victorian batsman averaged 28.29 runs throughout four Test matches, scoring 198 runs, including a match-saving 72* in the third Test in Ranchi.

The Victorian captain said that Chris Rogers and Michael Hussey are reasons why his Test career is not gone, even though he was realistic about requiring a position to advance in the team. The Victorian captain’s Sheffield Shield season begins today against South Australia.

“Mike Hussey debuted at 30 and had a pretty good Test career and even Chris Rogers started playing again at 35 and played for a couple of years, so it’s not out of the realms to play again,” Handscomb said.

“My aim is still to be on that Test tour to India (in February-March next year), even if it’s just as a backup,” Peter Handscomb said.

Peter Handscomb declared that he would take a position on the India tour if it were offered to him due to his reputation as an expert against spin-bowling. Added him:

“I do enjoy playing against spin, but I have also played in Australia for the majority of my career, which has been primarily against quicks, so I like to think I can still play the fastball,” the player said. If my ability to play spin well enables me to join subcontinent tours, as it has in the past, that is fantastic.”

“But also don’t forget I do like batting in Australia as well, where it is fast and bouncy and I can play a few cuts and pulls if need be.”

Australia will hope to fulfil its quest to win the series in India for the first time since 2004. The 2014-15 series in Australia was also the last time they held the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
