Legendary Australian speedster Mitchell Starc has revealed how current T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh found out about his retirement from International T20s through Instagram, as the player forgot to inform the captain of his decision.

Mitchell Starc recently announced his retirement from T20 international cricket to focus on the two other formats of the game. Starc has not played so often in the shortest format of the game and prioritized Test and ODI cricket.

Recently, Aakash Chopra also remarked that Aussies do not bid goodbye so quickly to Ashes and World Cups. Starc has played in 65 International T20s and finished with 79 wickets, while he also has 725 international wickets so far.

I probably should have rang up Mitchy - Mitchell Starc

During the announcement of his international retirement from T20s, Mitchell Starc had discussed it with several players, including his pace bowling partners, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins.

However, he has admitted that he forgot to keep Australian T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh in the loop and inform him of the decision for his retirement.

"I probably should have rang up Mitchy. He texted me and said he found out through Instagram. So I felt bad about that one. Sorry Mitchy!!" said Starc via the Unplayable Podcast about his T20I retirement.

Mitchell Marsh set to lead Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has taken up captaincy from Pat Cummins; whenever he has been snubbed from the ODI side, to focus on Test cricket.

Ever since the 2023 World Cup, Mitchell Marsh has been marked as the Australian skipper in most ODI games as well. Marsh led Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, despite Cummins being in the side. However, Australia marked a tragic exit from the T20 World Cup.

The all-rounder was also seen in some fine touch in the recent T20I series against the West Indies and then their home series against South Africa. He will be seen leading the Aussies in the upcoming T20 World Cup of 2026 in India.

Starc will focus on ODIs and Tests with his next appearance in the ODI series against India

Mitchell Starc's retirement might mark his presence in almost every upcoming ODI World Cup for Australia in 2027 and also the ICC World Test Championship matches. He would feature in the upcoming Ashes.

On the other hand, Mitchell Starc cannot feature in the Olympic Games in 2028, while players like Steve Smith desire to feature in the competition. The legendary 35-year-old pacer might still aim at 800 international wickets, though the dream looks distant; however, constant Test cricket for Australia hands him an opportunity.

Mitchell Starc's next big assignment is the ODI series against India at home and the iconic Ashes against England, which will be played in the November-January window.
