Mitchell Starc Breaks All Time Record As Gets Bought By KKR For 24.75 Crores In IPL Auction 2024

Mitchell Starc has become the most expensive player in the history of IPL as Kolkata Knight Riders signed him up for a whopping amount of Rs 24.75 crores in the ongoing IPL auction 2024.

The left-arm pacer was expected to cause a bidding war and he did not disappoint as the franchises went all out to secure his services before Kolkata Knight Riders won the race. Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians began bidding for Australia before Kolkata Knight Riders entered the race at Rs. 9.80 crores. Gujarat Titans soon joined the race at Rs. 10 crores.

Both Kolkata and Gujarat were in no mood to give up as Mitchell Starc became just the second player in the history of the IPL to touch the 20-crore mark. When Gujarat Titans submitted a bid of Rs. 23.50 crores, it looked all over but Kolkata Knight Riders decided to bid one more time and got their man at Rs. 24.75 crores.

One of the leading bowlers in the world for more than a decade now, Mitchell Starc has played just two IPL seasons so far. His last appearance in the IPL came way back in 2015. Throughout his absence, he was picked up by several franchises but opted against playing in the competition due to injuries or international commitments.

His IPL journey began in 2014 when he was signed up by Royal Challengers Bangalore. The left-arm pacer played two seasons for RCB before missing the 2016 edition due to injury. He decided against entering the 2017 auction before being bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018.

However, Mitchell Starc missed the season due to an injury. In 2019, he joined most of Australia’s players in skipping the IPL to focus on the World Cup and the Ashes in England. In 2020, he once again opted to not participate in the auction.
