Veteran Australian bowler Mitchell Starc recently opened up about his experience winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 trophy with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Mitchell Starc recalled how he and his teammate Pat Cummins faced scrutiny regarding their price tags in this year's T20 tournament.

Mitchell Starc played a crucial role in the Kolkata Knight Riders' third title victory during the Indian Premier League 2024. The Kolkata-based team showed dominance throughout the tournament. KKR defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) twice in the playoffs to clinch the trophy under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy.

Had A Bit Of A Laugh About It - Mitchell Starc

Speaking on the Willow Talk podcast, Mitchell Starc recalled his experience of winning the IPL amid financial pressures. He stated that he and Cummins, both well-paid players, shared a laugh during their first game in Hyderabad. He mentioned that the two costliest players played in the IPL 2024 final.

"Did laugh. So first game of the IPL, we played Hyderabad. So Patty and I, both got paid a fair bit, played the first game, and had a bit of a laugh about it. Just so happens, we play each other nine weeks later in the final. And all of a sudden it's gone from, they've paid overs for these two, and these two are now playing a final. Funny that," Starc said.

The Knight Riders acquired Mitchell Starc for a whopping Rs 24.75 crore in last year's mini-auction. Starc failed to live up to expectations, facing a tough start in the IPL 2024 season. The left-arm pacer conceded 100 runs in his first two matches with an economy rate of 12.50, without taking any wickets.

The 34-year-old pacer had a massive turnaround in the playoffs in the IPL 2024. The left-arm pacer was a standout performer for the Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 1 against the SunRisers Hyderabad. He picked up three wickets for 34 runs in four overs in the playoff match to guide KKR to the summit clash.

Starc also made a strong impact in the final. He took two crucial wickets, including Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi, in the final encounter. He was named Player of the Match for his figures of 2/24 in three overs. He also became the first player to earn the Player of the Match award twice in the IPL playoffs.

Mitchell Starc was last seen in action during the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA). The Marsh-led team failed to advance to the semi-final stage in the World Cup 2024. They were eliminated from the tournament after losing to Afghanistan and India in the Super Eight.

The left-arm pacer took five wickets in five games at an average of 31.60 and an economy rate of 8.78. He registered his best performance (2/20) against Oman. He conceded 45 runs in four overs and took two wickets during a crucial match against India.
