Indian women’s team ODI skipper Mithali Raj has been in sublime touch in the ongoing 50-over series against England. Even as India’s batting line-up has failed to live up to the expectations, contributing to their series loss, Mithali Raj’s experience has been a glue. And the 38-year old crossed a significant mark in international cricket during the third ODI on Saturday.

Mithali Raj surpassed England’s Charlotte Edwards to become the highest run-getter in women’s cricket. The right-handed batter needed only 12 runs in the third and the final ODI to do so and she reached there with a flamboyant boundary. Raj also became the only Indian women’s cricketer to make more than 10000 international runs.

With 10277 runs in 317 international fixtures, Mithali Raj is now the highest run-getter in women’s cricket. The four other players behind her are Charlotte Edwards with 10273 runs in 309 matches, New Zealand’s Suzie Bates with 7849 runs in 247 games, West Indies’ Stefanie Taylor with 7834 runs in 256 fixtures, and Australia’s Meg Lanning with 7024 in 199 appearances.

Meanwhile, Mithali Raj’s third consecutive ODI half-century resulted in a narrow victory against England in the third game in Worcester. Raj, who made 72 and 59 in the first two matches, could not find the right tempo. However, the veteran did so on Saturday during the tourists’ four-wicket triumph.

Chasing 220 for victory, the Jodhpur-born cricketer finished unbeaten on 75 in 86 deliveries to take India over the line. Deepti Sharma’s figures of 10-0-47-3 bowled England out for 219. Apart from Raj, Smriti Mandhana’s contribution was also crucial, as she scored 49 while opening the innings.
