Tim David, on Saturday (July 29), starred with the bat to help MI New York thrash Texas Super Kings by six wickets in the Challenger and book a place in the final of the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC).
MI New York captain Nicholas Pooran won the toss and elected to field first. Riding on Trent Boult’s brilliant early spell, the New York-based outfit started the game on a solid note. Texas Super Kings were reeling at 34 for 3 inside the powerplay before a 77-run stand between Devon Conway and Milind Kumar steadied the ship.

But once Rashid Khan broke the stand by dismissing Milind, the Super Kings’ innings got derailed and they were eventually all out for 158. In reply, MI New York chased down the total in 19 overs. Dewald Brevis top-scored for the side, scoring an unbeaten 41.

MI New York were reeling at 74 for 3 in the 11th over when Tim David joined Dewald Brevis in the middle. The match was finely poised at that time and it did not take Tim David long to put MI New York on top. By the time he departed in the 16th over, MI New York were comfortably in the driver’s seat.
The hard-hitting Australian batsman scored 33 runs off just 20 balls with the help of four sixes. And the highlight of his innings was the three sixes he hit in four balls against Mohammad Mohsin. MI New York were on 106 for 3 after 15 overs, needing 53 runs more in the last five overs before Tim David decided to shift gears.
He hit the first two balls of the over for sixes before the spinner managed to bowl a dot delivery. Tim David then smashed the fourth ball of the over for a six too before perishing on the fifth delivery. But the work was done and MI New York eventually chased down the total with an over remaining.
