Virat Kohli is widely known as the “Chase Master” for his incredible ability to guide India to victory. Over the years, Virat Kohli has built a reputation for finishing matches under pressure and delivering when the Indian National Cricket Team needs him the most.

But at the same time, Kohli's few innings have also sparked debate over chasing personal milestones among fans and experts. They have questioned whether the former India captain sometimes slows down while getting close to big personal milestones.

Virat Kohli's record-breaking numbers while chasing

This sparked debates on social media many times, even though the team often goes on to win those matches. The dashing right-handed batter’s record while chasing in the One Day International (ODI) cricket is simply outstanding.

He holds the record for the most centuries in run chases in ODI cricket, with 28 hundreds while batting second. He has also scored more than 6000 runs in ODI cricket during successful chases, which shows how important he has been for India in pressure situations.

Some innings raise eyebrows

One of the most talked-about moments came during the 2023 ODI World Cup match against Bangladesh. While chasing a target of 257, Virat Kohli was close to another century, and he skipped the single, which led to criticism from some fans and a few experts. Eventually, Kohli finished the match with a six and completed his century at the same time.

Another moment came in the same tournament against South Africa. On his birthday, Kohli scored his 49th ODI century, equalling the long-standing record of Sachin Tendulkar. During his knock, many felt his scoring slowed down between 90 and 100 on a difficult pitch.

Similar discussions had happened during the IPL as well. Some critics have pointed at slower “anchor” innings, saying he sometimes focuses too much on building personal numbers. However, many felt these innings usually come when wickets are falling quickly or when the pitch is difficult for batting.

Mohammad Amir slams Gautam Gambhir for accusing Virat Kohli of chasing personal milestones

Amid this debate, former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir strongly supported Kohli. He highlighted that Kohli has always played with the goal of winning matches for India and that most of his centuries have come in games where India ended up on the winning side. Notably, Gautam Gambhir recently made some remarks about personal milestones, which many felt were aimed at the batting legend Virat Kohli.

Mohammad Amir said on his YouTube channel, “Kohli has never played for personal milestones. If he wanted, he could have scored many more hundreds. There isn’t even a single match where Kohli scored a hundred and India didn't win; he always plays for the team, not for personal records.”

Virat Kohli to attend Kuldeep Yadav’s big day

Meanwhile, Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav is set to marry his childhood friend Vanshika on March 14 in Mussoorie. The wedding functions will take place at the luxury Savoy Hotel, which has been booked for three days. Around 80 rooms have been reserved for family members and VIP guests, with extra accommodation arranged at other luxury hotels.

It is being said that the top Indian stars like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah are expected to attend. The couple got engaged in Lucknow on June 4, 2025. The wedding was earlier planned for November but postponed due to the T20 World Cup 2026.
