After being defeated by England in the Super 8 round, Pakistan is on the brink of elimination from the T20 World Cup 2026. Amid the tough situations, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir drops a bombshell.
In his recent comments, Amir targets some of the fans who always show support for some specific players. According to the 33-year-old, the fans need to be aware of the incidents that happened behind the stage.
Mohammad Amir made some shocking claims against some specific cricketers
Without mentioning any specific name, Amir claimed that there are some players in the Pakistan National Cricket Team who put money ahead of responsibilities and national team duty. For example, he mentioned an incident from the past.
"You know what people here say? The moment you mention the names of two or three players, some people immediately rush to defend them, often in the wrong way. They ask, Why only these two or three players? Why are they being criticized?" Amri raised his concerns.
"Let me explain why they’re being criticised. In 2023, they refused to sign central contracts. They wanted contracts on their own terms and demanded specific salaries. They made it clear that they wanted 6.5 million per month otherwise, they would not sign the central contract", Amir explained.
Pakistan Cricket Board has been forced to increase the payment limits
The former pacer further explained that some of the cricketers refused to sign contracts only because of the pay scale. Under pressure, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was forced to increase the salary limits of the central contracts to satisfy the cricketers.
"Eventually, they were given salaries according to their own demands. Category A was set at 6.5 million per month, while Category B comes to around 4.5 million after tax. They said they wouldn’t sign unless their conditions were met", he said.
Amir wants to know the final outcome after the dramas related to the central contracts
Where are the results? Mohammad Amir raised the question. According to him, after such claims, it is wrong to defend those particular players.
"When players assert their demands like this, their names will inevitably come up. But then the question remains, where are the results? It’s not right to keep defending them by claiming they’ve been treated unfairly", he added.
Meanwhile, in the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2026, Salman Ali Agha's team had to take two back-to-back blows, which could have cost them the title. Their first match of the Super 8 against New Zealand was washed away on February 21, followed by a huge defeat against England on February 24. The Three Lions scratched Pakistan's dreams by outplaying them by 2 wickets in a close contest.
After two matches, the Men in Green are now with only 1 point in Group 2. They will have to face Sri Lanka on February 28 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Balagolla.
