Pakistan is facing major drama after doubts were raised over the fitness of Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman during the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2026. And now the former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has added fuel to the fire with his bold claims.

Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has launched an inquiry to find out how both Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman got injured and why their fitness issues weren’t reported before or during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 that was won by India last week in Ahmedabad.

Mohammad Amir accuses PCB of faking Babar Azam’s injury

Adding more fuel to the controversy, Mohammad Amir has denied claims that Fakhar Zaman faked his injury. He insisted that Fakhar was genuinely sidelined with a hamstring problem. His statement raised serious doubts over the PCB’s handling, as he claimed the board is faking a player’s injury.

Amir has not mentioned any name, but his hint was clear that the Mohsin Naqvi-headed PCB and selection committee are faking Babar’s injury to hide after the former captain was overlooked for the Bangladesh tour, where the Men in Green are playing a three-match ODI series.

Mohammad Amir said on his YouTube channel, "I've heard that the PCB faked a player's injury, and it's not Fakhar Zaman. He is dealing with the hamstring problem.”

Big communication failure? Aaqib Javed drops a bombshell

The drama started when Pakistan selectors said that they were unaware of the injuries during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. With the national selectors Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Asad Shafiq involved in the inquiry, the PCB is under pressure to explain whether proper updates on player fitness were shared and why communication seemed to fail at a crucial time.

Recently, Aaqib Javed revealed that the Pakistan selectors were not aware of Babar's and Fakhar’s injuries during the tournament. Javed said at the press conference, “Fakhar is also injured—on this, we have also requested the cricket board for an inquiry. How can it be that Fakhar is also unfit and we only found out after the World Cup ended? When you go to a World Cup, whatever health or injury issues there are, your head coach and physio should keep everyone updated.”

Aaqib Javed questions Babar Azam’s fitness drama

Speaking about Babar Azam, Javed said, “He also wanted to play the National T20 Cup, but his health condition didn’t allow him. Whether it was visible to you or to me is not important. But if a player gets injured in practice or a match, how it happens and when it happens should be known.”

Aaqib openly questioned whether the situation would have been very different if Pakistan had qualified for the semifinal. Notably, Pakistan has failed to reach the top four in the ICC events since 2022. He said, "Today the situation is that Babar Azam is not fit to play and Fakhar Zaman is not fit to play. If we had made the semifinal, would they have suddenly become fit? That is the question.”
