Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir recently made a massive statement regarding the future of Maaz Sadaqat. Following an exceptional all-round performance against Bangladesh, Amir predicted that the young batter has the potential to become the Abhishek Sharma of the Pakistan cricket team.
The 20-year-old opener delivered an all-round performance during the second ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka. The Shaheen Shah Afridi-led Pakistan team lost the series opener. Sadaqat helped the Men in Green secure a 128-run victory in the second ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
I Don’t Know if Abhishek Sharma Should Be... - Mohammad Amir
Mohammad Amir showered praise on Maaz Sadaqat for his talent and skills. Amir stated that the Pakistan cricket management must carefully nurture Sadaqat to maximize his long-term value for the squad.
“I don’t know if Abhishek Sharma should be in our team or not. But now that you have seen the potential in Maaz Sadaqat, you should pay special attention to how we should make him a player," Amir said.

Sadaqat opened the Pakistan innings alongside Sahibzada Farhan. He attacked the Bangladesh bowlers during the powerplay overs. Sadaqat smashed 75 runs off just 46 deliveries at a strike rate of 163.04, including six fours and five sixes. He added a 103-run partnership with Farhan for the first wicket.
If Maaz Sadaqat Works On His Technique, He Can Become A Top Player - Mohammad Amir
Mohammad Amir emphasized the massive responsibility placed upon the team captain and the domestic cricket system. Amir stated that the Pakistan management must protect Maaz Sadaqat from outside distractions to ensure his continued professional growth.
“Player, apko pata hai captain, management and the system banata hai aur bigadta bhi wahi hai. I am telling you this from my experience. It is his (Maaz’s) job and our system’s job as well to not distract him and to keep him focused. If you pay attention to Maaz Sadaqat and he works on his technique, he can become a player," Amir opined.
He Was Hitting Sixes On Both Sides - Mohammad Amir
Amir also stated that Sadaqat showed aggressive batting technique and clean ball-striking ability. The former pacer pointed out that he was hitting sixes across the ground, which is needed for limited-overs cricket.
“You saw his shots yesterday (on Friday). He wasn’t a T20, but he was hitting sixes on both sides. He can become a player," Amir stated.
Sadaqat also delivered an impressive performance with the ball during the rain-hit match. Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi handed the ball to the young all-rounder to test the struggling Bangladesh middle-order batters on the spin-friendly surface in Dhaka.
Sadaqat lived up to the expectations of the Pakistan captain. The spinner conceded 23 runs in five overs. He dismissed Litton Das, Afif Hossain, and Rishad Hossain, securing three vital wickets to ensure a comfortable victory for the Pakistan cricket team.
