Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Amir also has expressed his frustration over players of the 90s. He cited his example, saying how he was deliberately not selected for the New Zealand tour during COVID because of a 90s cricketer in the management.

The blame game started in the Pakistan Cricket after the team's disappointing performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Things have taken a completely different turn, and it has now become a battle of players of the 90s vs the other former cricketers.

The players of the 90s, in particular, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, have come under massive pump. This is because the duo criticised the Mohammad Rizwan-led side a lot for the way they failed in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, losing all their games and ending the group stage last on the table.

As the batch of 90s went hard at players, some of the former cricketers, in particular Rashid Latif, exposed Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. He stressed that the 90s players should be kept away from the management and the team, adding that instead of providing solutions they just talk about what they did in their time.

Let's be hard on him - Mohammad Amir on how a 90s player didn't select him in the team

Amid all this, Mohammad Amir too has revealed how a player from the 90s did wrong with him. He talked about how even after performing, he wasn't picked for the New Zealand series because the selection members wanted to keep an upper hand over him. Speaking on a TV Show, he said:

"Do you remember the year when Karachi King won the final? There was a super over against Multan, I did a good job, I did it luckily. The team then had to go to New Zealand, right? Covid was going on. The team had to go to New Zealand and 40 players were selected. My name didn't come up.

"The PSL was about to start and the team had to go to New Zealand after two weeks. They announced the squad even before the playoffs. They did so because they were aware that if Amir or Malik should perform, they would have to take him along.

"One of the coaching staff was also from the 90s. I did a super over. The Karachi team reached the final. There was a colleague who was talking to the 90s guy. Everyone is saying that you are not taking Amir to New Zealand. He is not even in a 40-man contingent. He is performing. He said, no, no, he is in our plan. Let's be hard on him. He is in the plan now. This is their thinking."

Instead of lowering their confidence, tell them the solution - Mohammad Amir

While further targeting the 90s players, Mohammad Amir said that they make others angry by talking only about themselves. He mentioned that instead of lowering the confidence of the team, they should provide a solution. He added that if they want to criticise then do it on the cricketing terms.

"I hate the comparison that you do. Every player has his own era. He earned his name, his place, he performed. But when you sit on TV again and again and say our era, our era, rich history, rich history. Then a person gets a little angry. You tell the solution of cricket. Because you have played more cricket than us, 25-30 years of cricket. You will have more knowledge than us.

"Instead of lowering their confidence, tell them the solution. Someone is making fun, someone is talking. You tell the solution. We also criticize cricket here. I have been open about it for the last two years. But talk about cricketing. I used to do this. I used to do that. I always take the example of the leader in Younis, Saifi. You give such solutions. I used to do this. I used to do that. Everyone does a lot like this," said Mohammad Amir

Our era was not that bad - Mohammad Amir

Mohammad Amir, while expressing his anger, talked about his era, saying that when he was playing, the team achieved a lot. He explained:

"I will tell you about my era, If I have to. In 2016, we played in the England Test series. We drew the four-match series by 2-2. In 2017, we won the Champions Trophy in England. In 2018, we won the away T20I series against New Zealand. Till 2018, we won 11 consecutive T20I series.

"And then we were the number one in Test as well. In 2019, we were going to the semi-finals but NRR cost us. Our era was not that bad."
