Mohammad Amir retires from international cricket again after Imad Wasim's exit

Pakistan National Cricket Team pacer Mohammad Amir has announced his retirement from International Cricket. The left-arm pacer announced his decision through a social media post on Saturday (14th December), thanking fans and family for their support.
Mohammad Amir mentioned that he made the decision to retire after strong consideration but admitted that it wasn't an easy decision for him to take. He stressed that he feels it is the right time for the youngsters to take Pakistan Cricket to new heights and take the baton from seniors.
Mohammad Amir added that representing Pakistan was and always will be the biggest honor for him. He extended his gratitude towards the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), fans, and family for their support throughout his career.

Taking to his Twitter account, he explained:
"After careful consideration, l have taken the difficult decision to retire from international cricket. These decisions are never easy but are inevitable. I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take the baton and elevate Pakistan Cricket to new heights!
"Representing my country has been and always will be the greatest honour of my life. I would sincerely like to thank the PCB, my family and friends and, above all, my fans for their continuous love & support."

This was the second time that Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from International cricket. After having some issues with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2021, he called time on his career. After that, there were a lot of talks related to his comeback, but it didn't happen for three years.
Amir finally made his comeback to the Pakistan team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He played a few series before the tournament and then featured in the event, which was the last time he played for the Pakistan National Cricket Team on the international stage.
A look at Mohammad Amir's career
Amir made his debut in 2009 and helped Pakistan National Cricket Team win the T20 World Cup 2009. But after that, he was involved in match-fixing and then was banned for five years in the same case. He then made his comeback in 2016 and then played a massive role for the team.
Amir helped Pakistan National Cricket Team win the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 as his spell in the final against India set the tone for the team. He was a decent servant for the team as he produced many match-winning spells for the team and helped them win.
Overall, Amir played in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20I matches, picking up 119, 81 and 71 wickets respectively.
PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmad Syed acknowledged the contributions of Amir and Imad Wasim and in and official release stated: “On behalf of the PCB, I extend sincere gratitude to Amir and Imad for their services to Pakistan cricket and wish them the very best in their future endeavours."
