Mohammad Amir, the former Pakistani pacer who was part of the setup back during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, recalled how many players in the Pakistan dugout were laughing just the next moment after a humiliating defeat to the USA, which crushed their chances to make it to the Super-8 of the tournament.

Pakistan have struggled to keep up their good show in this World Cup as well, especially when they have played against tough opposition like India and England. Pakistan's journey in this edition started with a lousy victory against the Netherlands, where they lost 7 wickets while chasing 147 runs.

They then went on to win the second game against the USA by 32 runs, before the fateful night when they lost for the eighth time against India in an ICC T20 World Cup matchup. After the 61 loss to the rivals, they qualified for the Super-8s with a massive 102-run win over Namibia.

Mohammad Amir recalls a tragic incident for Pakistan from the 2024 World Cup

Pakistan's passage to the semi-final has turned out to be a tricky maze after their defeat to England. The game until one point looked to go in Pakistan's favour, but the English skipper single-handedly changed the course of the game.

Mohammad Amir, amid this situation of crisis, has recalled the same type of situation during the previous edition of the World Cup. He remembered their tragic loss to the USA in the 2024 T20 World Cup group stage, which had ended their chances to qualify for the Super-8 that season.

Despite being knocked out after a loss against a minnow, some players from the Babar Azam-led side were laughing within an hour of the loss, behaving as if nothing had actually happened.

“Those who feel they cannot sleep for the whole night. I was very hurt. Post the USA loss, there were players who were indulging in laughter. Our flight was one hour later after the match, and there were 2-3 players in the team who would indulge in laughter. Like nothing has happened," said Mohammad Amir on the show Hasna Mana hai.

Mohammad Amir accuses Pakistan players of taking 'cricket for granted'

Recalling the same incident, he felt that many players from Pakistan have started taking the game for granted, and cricket is such a sport that if you do not take it for granted, it will return respect to you, but if not, then it will kick you aside.

Many boys, I don’t want to name them, have taken cricket for granted. But cricket is such a game; if one does not take it for granted, it will keep giving you respect. Otherwise, it will kick you,” Amir said through the above-mentioned source.

This remark was not made for the players back then, but for several players now as well, who have not devoted 100% of their effort to the game. Pakistan has made many goof-ups and has missed out on easy chances, and their ground fielding has been horrible.

"Last 4-5 years, we have been continuously thrashed," Mohammad Amir, with a reality check for Pakistan

Mohammad Amir did not back out from handing one reality check after another to the Pakistan players and the PCB. He continued saying that Pakistan have been trashed over the last 4-5 years and instead mocked them, saying this was the first time we felt like Pakistan could win at one point; otherwise, we never get to feel that.

“Pichle 4-5 saal se chapade hi lag rahi hain (Last 4-5 years, we have been continuously thrashed). Whatever team comes, defeat us. And with ease. Today, we felt for some time that we could win. Otherwise, during the last tournament till this, we did not have any hope that Pakistan would win," Mohammad Amir remarked.

"He next revealed how some players in the team have constantly been backed despite their lack of good performances in the past few years. "I think there have been a lot of chances given to the 4-5 players, who form your core. We have been talking for the last 4-5 years about how they have had enough chances. And they still have not delivered,” added Amir.
