Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif has revealed the reason behind Mohammad Rizwan's non-appointment as Pakistan captain earlier. Latif revealed the whole story of why Rizwan was not considered for the role despite Pakistan being in dire need of a sensible captain like him.
Mohammad Rizwan was appointed Pakistan's white-ball captain just a few days ago. The wicketkeeper-batter is currently in Australia, serving as a full-time Pakistan captain for the first time.
Rizwan replaced Babar Azam in the role. Babar left the captaincy after some poor results for Pakistan under his leadership. Rizwan was the frontrunner to replace him and it was officially announced just a few days before the ODI series in Australia.

Rashid Latif reveals why Mohammad Rizwan wasn't appointed Pakistan captain
Rashid Latif opened up about why Mohammad Rizwan wasn't seen for the role of Pakistan captain earlier. Latif revealed that Rizwan declined to advertise a betting company which made the PCB look for some other captain.
"In PSL, there was a sponsor called 'Dafa News' which came with the HBL (title sponsor). The production house brought that sponsor. It came with a new name but it was a betting company. It had connections with India," Latif said.
"The production company had completed the deals of the next four franchises as well. Some players relented and our current captain and the former captain were also there," he added.

Mohammad Rizwan refuses to promote betting company
After knowing that the betting company was illegal, Rizwan refused to promote it. The story is from the last season of PSL when Rizwan was asked to pay the fine if he did not want to wear the betting company's logo on his jersey. Rizwan accepted the offer but refused to promote the betting company.
Latif even claimed that the Pakistan Cricket Board betrayed the nation's people by not making Rizwan the captain because of this reason.
"Rizwan received a clarification that the company is illegal. He was told by the franchise owner that he would have to leave the captaincy if he didn't want to wear the logo on his jersey. He was asked to pay the fine. Rizwan confirmed that he will pay his part," the former Pakistan wicketkeeper said.
"Mohammad Rizwan wasn't made the captain at that time because he declined to advertise the betting company. The board (PCB) has betrayed the Pakistani people by not making Rizwan the captain," Latif concluded.
Mohammad Rizwan appointed Pakistan's captain
Pakistan cricket team has been going through a low time for the past year. Babar Azam was the team's captain earlier but some poor results under his leadership prompted him to step down from his post.
While Shan Masood was appointed Pakistan's Test captain almost a year ago, Rizwan was appointed the captain a few days ago after Babar decided to step down as the white-ball captain.
Under Rizwan, Pakistan lost the first ODI to Australia in a thriller in Melbourne. However, they came back hard to win the second match in a convincing way to level the series 1-1.
