Former Pakistan player Basit Ali has made surprising claims that Mohammad Rizwan will take over the captainship of the Pakistan team in red-ball cricket. Basit Ali has revealed the Pakistan Cricket Board's new plans after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Babar Azam led the team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 but the team gave a humiliating performance in the tournament. The Men-in-Green lost to the USA in a shocking encounter that hurt Pakistani fans. Later, they also lost to India by failing to chase down a 120-run target in the match.

Notably, Babar Azam was nominated as T20I skipper just ahead of the tournament. However, his tactics completely failed in all games and Pakistan could not even reach the Super 8 round. Pakistan was the runner-up in the last edition.

Mohammad Rizwan will replace Shan Masood as Pakistan Skipper: Basit Ali

Former Pakistan batting all-rounder Basit Ali claimed that Mohammad Rizwan will be the new skipper of the Pakistan team and replace Shan Masood from the post.

"Pakistan team has started preparations for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh which will witness two Tests. Moreover, Mohammad Rizwan will be given the leadership duties. He also added that Pakistan Cricket Board will announce the decision soon", Basit Ali claimed in the video shared on his YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan could not give an outstanding show in ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Although they were the top run-getters for the side, they could not lead the team to the Super 8 round from Group A.

However, they did score a good knock in one match. Babar Azam held a strike rate of 106 across 4 games in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The right-handed batter slammed 44 vs USA in the opening game.

Later, he piled up 13 vs India, 33 vs Canada, and 32* vs Ireland. On the other hand, Mohammad Rizwan shattered 8, 33, 53, and 17 but had a low strike rate of 90+. Ahead another tournament, PCB replaced Shaheen Afridi as T20I skipper and named Azam as captain of white-ball formats.

Pakistan to face Bangladesh in two Tests in August

Pakistan will face Bangladesh in two Tests in August 2024. The two-match series is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. Some Pakistan players are busy with the Lanka Premier League 2024 (LPL 2024) in Sri Lanka currently.

Shan Masood is the current Test skipper who lost the three-match series to Australia 3-0 in December last year. Now, they will aim for a better show against Bangladesh. The Men-in-Green are placed in the 5th spot in WTC 2023-25 points table with 2 wins and 3 defeats across 5 games.
