Pakistan National Cricket Team selector Mohammad Yousuf, on Sunday (29th September), made a bombshell announcement ahead of the England Test series. The former cricketer of the team stepped down from the post and cited personal reasons behind his decision.

Mohammad Yousuf was under the scanner due to the poor performances of the Pakistan National Cricket Team in the T20Is and the Tests. He was appointed as the selector of the team in March 2024, and since then, the team's performance has been underwhelming, losing some of the biggest games.

Mohammad Yousuf picked the Pakistan team for the T20 World Cup 2024 and the team didn't have a great outing. They faced the group stage exit from the tournament as they faced losses against the United States of America (USA) and India National Cricket Team, failing to qualify for the Super 8 stage.

Mohammad Yousuf also picked a team for the two-match Test series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. The team suffered a whitewash in the two-match Test series and came under scanner for their poor outing with the bat and ball in the entire series, which was played at home in Rawalpindi.

Mohammad Yousuf's last assignment was the team that he picked for the first Test against the England National Cricket Team. With him picking the team for the first game, it was certain that he would also name the team for the last two games of the series. But that wasn't the case as he stepped down.

I announce my resignation as a selector for the Pakistan cricket team due to personal reasons - Mohammad Yousuf

Taking to his Twitter account, Mohammad Yousuf stated that due to personal reasons, he is resigning from the post of selector. He mentioned that it was a privilege for him to contribute to the team and added that he is confident that the team will continue to strive for greatness. He elaborated:

"I announce my resignation as a selector for the Pakistan cricket team due to personal reasons. Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan Cricket.

"I have immense faith in the talent and spirit of our players, and Wish our team all the best as they continue to strive for greatness."

Yousuf was a great servant for the Pakistan National Cricket Team. He played 90 Tests, 288 ODIs, and three T20Is for Men in Green during his 12-year-long international career.

Pakistan is now gearing up for the three-match Test series against England National Cricket Team. The series will begin from 7th October at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan, followed by the second game to be played at the same venue from 15th October. The series will conclude in Rawalpindi, which will host the last game from 24th October.

Pakistan would be entering the series on the back of the defeat in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. They have come under serious scanner and would be keen to make an impact in the upcoming series against England National Cricket Team. The last time these two faced each other in a series, it saw Three Lions beating Pakistan at home by 3-0.

The Shan Masood-led side will also be having a pre-match camp ahead of the series opener in Multan, which gets underway on 1st October.
