An interesting sight was witnessed on day two of the ongoing Test between Australia and India when Mohammed Shami came to bowl. The India pace star was seen bowling with a torn shoe on his left foot. The sight was witnessed in the very early part of Australia’s innings so the possibility of the shoe getting torn on the field was highly unlikely.

Shane Warne Explains The Reason Behind It

Well, former Australia spinner Shane Warne tried to explain the reason behind Mohammed Shami’s tactic of bowling with a torn shoe. The legendary spinner, who is a part of the commentary panel for the series, explained that Mohammed Shami’s bowling action could have prompted him to use the unique tactic.

Shane Warne explained Mohammed Shami’s high arm action and said that when the bowler released the delivery, his left toe needed more space. And thus to ensure that there is no negative impact on his bowling, Mohammed Shami came out to bowl with a torn shoe. The extra space allows his toe to be free when his foot lands with such great force while bowling.

At the same time, Warne also joked that Mohammed Shami might not wear those shoes while batting because the Australian bowlers would target him with yorkers. Talking about the pacer’s performance in the ongoing game, he failed to take any wicket in the first innings. India, however, still managed to dismiss Australia for a modest 191 to take a handy lead of 53 runs.

At the end of day two, India were on 9 for 1 with their overall lead extended to 2 runs. Earlier on the second day, India were all out for 244. After starting the day on 233 for 6, the visitors could add only 11 runs to their overnight score and lost all the remaining four wickets.
