India fast bowler Mohammed Shami has taken a brutal dig at former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar for the latter's comments on his potential drop in price tag in the IPL 2025 auction.

Manjrekar had earlier suggested a potential price drop in tha mega auction due to his constant injury concerns recently. Although the fast bowler seems to be back in action with full fitness now, his list of injuries would make the franchises think twice before picking him up.

Mohammed Shami roasts Sanjay Manjrekar with a savage reply

Mohammed Shami, who was not included by Gujarat Titans in the retention list, recently returned from surgery and was quick to give a savage reply to Sanjay Manjrekar.

“Baba ji ki jay ho. Thodasa gyan apne future k liye bhi bacha lo kaam ayega Sanjay (Manjrekar) G? Kisi ko future janna ho toh sir se mile (Glory to Baba Ji. Save a little wisdom for your own future too, it might come in handy, Sanjay G. If anyone wants to know their future, they should meet the sir),” Shami posted on his Instagram handle.

Mohammed Shami recently returned from injury as he played a professional match after nearly a year. He marked his return with a Ranji Trophy match for Bengal in the ongoing season and looked in good rhythm as well.

However, the 34-year-old quickly did not find a place in India's Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he wasn't fit at the time of squad selection. But he found a place in Bengal's squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Sanjay Manjrekar's comments on Mohammed Shami

While speaking on Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar had earlier predicted a drop in price tag for Mohammed Shami due to his long history of injuries. Manjrekar stated that Shami can break down at any time during the season which might affect a franchise's squad.

“There will definitely be interest from teams, but given (Mohammed) Shami's injury history—and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover—there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season," Manjrekar said.

"If a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag," he added.

Mohammed Shami's last international match

Mohammed Shami last played an international match in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia in Ahmedabad. Since then, he has been out of the team due to fitness concerns. The fast bowler went through surgery on Achilles heal earlier this year.

The surgery kept him out of professional cricket for a long time during which he missed the IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup 2024. He was expected to be back for India's start of the Test season against Bangladesh but could not recover in time.

Shami was again expected to be back for New Zealand Tests but swelling in his knee prevented him from making a comeback again. Subsequently, he wasn't picked for the five-match Test series against Australia.
