India National Cricket Team pacer Mohammed Shami roared back to form with the ball in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, dismantling Bangladesh batters with his fiery pace and lethal swing at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Thursday (February 20).

From doubts to domination, Mohammed Shami proved why he remains the India National Cricket Team’s ultimate big-match warrior and even the speedster scripted history in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 encounter against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team in Dubai.

Mohammed Shami creates history with a sensational bowling show in Dubai

Playing his first-ever ICC Champions Trophy match for India, Shami has been sensational with the ball, as he has already delivered a fiery spell and picked up three crucial wickets against Bangladesh in the ongoing clash in Dubai on Thursday.

After removing dangerous Jaker Ali, Shami etched his name in history, becoming India’s most successful bowler in the white-ball ICC tournaments. Apart from this incredible achievement, the Indian fast bowler also became the second-fastest bowler in ODI history to reach 200 wickets (in terms of matches played). In terms of balls bowled, Shami is the fastest to achieve the 200 ODI wickets milestone.

The fourth ball of the 43rd over of Bangladesh’s innings was wide, and Shami had to deliver the ball again, and he stunned Jaker with a clever delivery. The Indian pacer bowled slower ball outside off, forcing Jaker to stretch for a big shot towards the leg side.

However, the Bangladesh batter mistimed it completely, sending the ball high into the sky. Virat Kohli, who was stationed at long-on, kept his focus, settled under it, and grabbed the catch with ease, ending Jaker’s fighting knock of 68 runs. With this wicket, Shami not only picked up his third in the match but also reached a historic milestone of 200 ODI wickets.

Shami became the fastest Indian and second fastest bowler overall in the world to take 200 wickets in ODI cricket. He took 104 innings to reach the milestone, while Australian pacer Mitchell Starc leads the chart, having achieved the feat in 102 innings in ODI cricket.

Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq also took 104 innings, followed by New Zealand’s Trent Boult (107) and Australian legend Brett Lee (112) to complete the list of fastest bowlers to take 200 wickets in ODI cricket.

Mohammed Shami surpasses Zaheer Khan as most successful bowler for India in ICC events

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami has etched his name in history as India's most successful bowler in ICC white-ball tournaments. With a total of 72 wickets across the ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy, the Indian pacer has surpassed Zaheer Khan’s tally of 71 wickets.

Shami has 55 wickets in just 18 ODI World Cup matches, 14 wickets in 14 T20 World Cup games, and three wickets to his name in his first-ever Champions Trophy appearance. Zaheer, who previously held the record of India's most successful bowler in ICC white-ball tournaments, had 44 wickets in ODI World Cups, 15 in the Champions Trophy, and 12 in T20 World Cups to his name.

The elite list also features Jasprit Bumrah (68 wickets), Ravindra Jadeja (65 wickets), and Ravichandran Ashwin (59 wickets). Notably, Shami finished the game with a five-wicket haul.
