The Supreme Court of India has issued a notice to fast bowler Mohammed Shami and the West Bengal government following a fresh petition filed by his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan. She has appealed for an increase in the monthly alimony granted by the Calcutta High Court.
In her petition registered at the Supreme Court of India, Hasin Jahan claimed that the current amount is not enough to cover her and their daughter’s expenses.
Earlier, the Calcutta High Court had directed Mohammed Shami to pay ₹1.5 lakh per month to Jahan for her personal expenses and an additional ₹2.5 lakh per month for the care of their daughter. However, Jahan has now argued that the amount is insufficient considering Shami’s current financial status and her growing responsibilities as a single mother.

Responding to Jahan’s petition, the Supreme Court has asked both Shami and the Bengal government to submit their replies within four weeks. Now, the Mohammed Shami-Hasin Jahan matter is expected to be taken up for hearing once their responses are received.
This case adds another chapter to their long-standing conflict, which began in 2018 when Jahan accused the Indian fast bowler of domestic violence, dowry harassment, and infidelity. These allegations led to a criminal case against Shami under several sections of the Indian Penal Code.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cleared Shami of any match-fixing charges that surfaced around the same time, but the senior pacer’s personal life has remained under public scrutiny due to the ongoing legal battle with his ex-wife.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami recently opened up about his personal life. When asked about his marriage to Hasin Jahan, the Indian bowler has made it clear that he has no regrets and prefers not to dwell on what’s gone. He emphasized that he doesn’t wish to blame anyone for what happened.
Shami was quoted as saying by NDTV: “Leave that. I never regret the past. What's gone is gone. I don't want to blame anyone, including myself. I want to focus on my cricket. I don't need these controversies.”

The Indian pacer also addressed questions about cricketers’ personal issues. Over the years, several Indian players have faced challenges in their personal lives, including Hardik Pandya, Shikhar Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik, and many others.
But Shami has made it clear that he doesn’t want to be dragged into unnecessary controversies, as his only priority now is his game. He added, “That's your job to investigate. Why do you want to hang us to death? Look at the other side as well. I focus on cricket, not controversies.”
Currently, Shami has been out of India’s plans across the formats, and most recently, he was overlooked for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa. He is currently playing for Bengal in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26. He last played for India in the Champions Trophy 2025.
