Mohammed Shami was all set to return through the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand
After the ankle injury that he faced in the ICC World Cup 2023, Shami was all set to return through the recently concluded Test series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. However, just ahead of that, he experienced swelling in his knee, and he wasn't deemed fit to take part even in the domestic games.
Following the soreness in the knee, Shami resumed bowling in full tilt and was seen bowling to Indian assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and Shubman Gill on the sidelines after the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. He wasn't named in the team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 but there were reports which suggested something different.
Mohammed Shami reportedly was all set to come back from the third Test against Australia
As per the reports, it was learned that Shami would have made a return to the team from the third Test against Australia. Before that, he was supposed to play in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 to attain match fitness and then was supposed to travel to Australia.
With Shami now facing the side strain, the dream to see him pairing with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 is likely to be shattered. Although the seriousness of the injury is not known, he might miss all five games against the Australia National Cricket Team.
Mohammed Shami raised the hopes of many when he, during the promotional event at Gurugram, made a statement about his comeback. He mentioned that he is 100% pain-free and also expressed his desire to play a few Ranji Trophy 2024-25 games before making a comeback into the India National Cricket Team.
Mohammed Shami wasn't named in the Bengal squad for the next two games of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25
Shami also wasn't named in the Bengal squad for the next two games of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Him missing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will be a major blow for the India National Cricket Team as he would have been proved to be the key factor. Also, with India facing whitewash in the series at home, they would be under a lot of pressure heading to Australia.
Mohammed Shami was last seen in action in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He picked 24 wickets at an average of 10.70 to be the leading wicket-taker in the competition.
