Out-of-favour Indian pacer Mohammed Shami and his brother Mohammed Kaif have been summoned to appear for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing before the Bengal Election Commission.

Mohammed Shami might be having the darkest years of his life currently. The pacer from Bengal has repeatedly missed out on a Team India comeback despite his stunning domestic run since the Ranji Trophy. The pacer did a remarkable job in the Ranji Trophy and picked up a lot of wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

He continued his stellar form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he already has 11 wickets from 5 games and has bowled his complete spells, yet he was ignored for the New Zealand ODIs by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee. Amid all this, Shami now has to attend a hearing related to the ongoing SIR scrutiny in Bengal.

Mohammed Shami summoned for SIR hearing in Bengal

Mohammed Shami and his brother Mohammed Kaif have been served notices to appear for a Special Intensive Revision hearing before the Election Commission in Bengal. The SIR is a process of voter validation undertaken by the Government of India to ensure all legal voters have their right to vote in a province, while also excluding ineligible voters from the Lists.

Shami and his brother are voters under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Ward no. 93, which falls under the Rashbehari assembly constituency. They were issued the official notice from Kartju Nagar School in Jadavpur.

According to NDTV, Shami did not fill out the enumeration form provided to them correctly, as a result of which this summons has been issued. He could not attend the hearing on Monday due to his commitments with the Bengal Cricket Team in Rajkot, and hence, the hearing has been rescheduled between the 9th and 11th of January.

Mohammed Shami moved to Bengal during the early days of his career

Speaking of Mohammed Shami, he is originally from Uttar Pradesh but moved to Kolkata for around a decade due to his cricket career. He who did not get opportunities in UP made it to Bengal at a very young age on the advice of his coach.

As a fast bowler, he caught the eyes of Sambaran Banerjee and secured a place for the first time in Bengal's Under-22 team, which led to the initiation of his career in senior cricket. He also played in Bengal's local Mohun Bagan Cricket Cup.

Mohammed Shami has, however, been troubled with lawsuits in his career. He has had regular trouble since the divorce lawsuit filed by his estranged wife and is often asked to appear for a hearing on alimony-related conflicts. Now, the legal SIR trouble lands him in another fiasco.

Mohammed Shami's standout international career for India

Shami has not only been an exceptional fast bowler for India, but he has also been India's finest ever when it comes to ICC tournaments. Not playing much for India in the shortest format of the game, Shami has been India's shining star in the 50-over format.

He is India's highest wicket-getter in the ICC ODI events and the highest ever ODI wicket-taker from India in World Cups, and all this he has done, having played the least number of games among all his competitors on that list.

Having played 64 Tests for India, Mohammed Shami has 229 scalps with the red ball and has the record for being the second fastest to 200 ODI wickets in international cricket. In 108 matches for India, he has 206 wickets in the 50-over format and 27 wickets in T20Is to add to his white-ball wickets tally.
