Team India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj dismissed Australia opener Travis Head during the third and final ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on Saturday, October 25. Following the wicket, the right-arm fast bowler equaled his teammate Jasprit Bumrah's record against Head in international cricket.
Head has been a challenging opponent for India after his match-winning century in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. However, the situation has changed in 2025. Head and skipper Mitchell Marsh helped Australia get off to a steady start, with Head scoring 29 runs, including six boundaries, before being dismissed.
Mohammed Siraj Dismisses Dangerous Travis Head for 29, Gives India First Breakthrough
Travis Head’s innings came to an end in the 10th over of Australia’s innings. The left-handed batter mistimed a late cut off a back-of-a-length delivery from Mohammed Siraj.
The ball flew straight to Prasidh Krishna at the backward point, giving India their first breakthrough as Australia lost their first wicket at 61. Head was dismissed for 29 runs off 25 balls, including six boundaries.
This marked Head’s third consecutive failure in the series, following scores of 8 and 28 in the first two ODIs, and drew heavy criticism from fans on social media.
Mohammed Siraj Equals Jasprit Bumrah’s Record by Dismissing Travis Head Eight Times
Mohammed Siraj equaled teammate Jasprit Bumrah’s record by dismissing Travis Head eight times in international cricket. Only a few bowlers, including Stuart Broad, Kagiso Rabada, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, and Mark Wood, have managed to dismiss Head multiple times.
Siraj removed Travis Head for the third time in ODIs. He has dismissed the Australian batter five times in Test cricket.
The Hyderabad pacer was unable to add more wickets in the match to strengthen his place in the 50-over squad, having taken just one wicket across the first two games. Earlier this year, the 31-year-old was left out of India’s squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
Travis Head Becomes Fastest Australian Batter to Reach 3,000 ODI Runs
Travis Head reached a significant milestone during the third ODI match, becoming the fastest Australian batter to score 3,000 runs in One Day Internationals.
The left-handed batter achieved the landmark in his 76th innings, surpassing Steve Smith’s previous record of 79 innings. Head has been a consistent performer in the limited-overs format over the past few years.
Head now stands ahead of notable Australian players such as Michael Bevan and George Bailey, who reached 3,000 ODI runs in 80 innings each. He took 2,839 deliveries to reach the mark, behind Glenn Maxwell (2,440), Jos Buttler (2,533), and Jason Roy (2,820) in terms of balls faced.
Here Is the Table of Fastest Australian Batters to 3,000 ODI Runs:
