India rookie fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was unfortunate enough not to get the nod against New Zealand in the World Test Championship in Southampton. Instead, India went with Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah, but it did not prove to be a winning combination. Hence, as per trusted sources, Mohammed Siraj would most likely replace Ishant Sharma in the five-match Test series against England.
Mohammed Siraj has arguably been one of the most improved bowlers of the current era. Not only he has improved himself in international cricket, but also in the IPL, where batsmen used to milk him for plenty of runs. He currently 16 scalps in five Tests at 28.25. The right-arm paceman took six wickets in seven IPL games for the Royal Challengers Bangalore this year at 31.83 and maintained a decent economy rate of 7.35.
Meanwhile, apart from Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Virat Kohli went ahead with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to cover the spin-bowling unit. While Ishant Sharma picked three big wickets in the first innings, Jasprit Bumrah went wicketless in the entire game. Hence, Ishant’s place could be in doubt only due to the injury he faced in the decider and Bumrah’s spot looks more under scrutiny.
Mohammed Siraj is in, that’s certain: BCCI sources
BCCI sources revealed that India would likely stick with both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the eleven. Furthermore, they indicated that Mohammed Siraj will take Ishant Sharma’s spot.
“Even if the team management intends to stick with R Ashwin and Ravi Jadeja in the eleven, Siraj will probably replace Ishant (Sharma). But he’s in, and that’s certain,” the sources claimed as per News18.com.
