Earlier in the match, Mohammed Siraj missed a crucial chance to dismiss Matthew Short. Short, well-set on 53, played a cross-batted drive through the covers that ended up at backward point. The ball went straight into Siraj’s hands, but he failed to hold on. At that stage, Australia was 139/4 in their chase.

Siraj made up for his mistake on the final ball of the 36th over. Harshit Rana bowled a short delivery that Short attempted to attack, and Siraj completed the catch. Short had to walk back to the dressing room for 74 off 78 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes.

India managed to remove the set batter, but Short had already contributed important runs to Australia’s total, putting the hosts in a good position at 187/5 during the run chase.
