Umesh Yadav, the out-of-favour Indian pacer, has pointed out that Mohsin Khan, despite his performance, cannot be backed immediately for India selection due to the player's massive concerns about his injury.

Team India selection might truly be on the cards for some bowlers after their splendid season in the IPL. If form were one of the factors, Bhuvneshwar Kumar would be one of the frontrunners for being selected back into the India team; however, the possibility looks slim.

Rather, the likes of Anshul Kamboj, Mohsin Khan, and Prince Yadav have impressed with their bowling performance. Veterans in Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have also produced some stunning stats with the ball.

"Fitness is a major concern for him" - Umesh Yadav reflected on Mohsin Khan's chances for a Team India spot

Mohsin Khan's form in the shortest format of the game has been impressive. Despite his splendid form, he has played only a handful of games in the ongoing IPL 2026, where he has been ruled out with injury in the majority of the matches for the Lucknow Super Giants.

Out-of-favour Indian pacer Umesh Yadav has revealed that though Mohsin is a very talented cricketer and is a good bowler by quality, he is yet to be considered for selection into the Indian team due to his massive injury concerns.

"He is a talented bowler, but you can’t make immediate decisions about national selection based on just a couple of matches. Fitness is a major concern for him. He often plays a few matches and then gets injured, missing entire seasons. Selectors look for consistency—how much cricket you’ve played and how your body holds up," said Umesh Yadav in an interview with RevSportz.

"To be considered for higher levels, he needs to play full domestic seasons—Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare, and Syed Mushtaq Ali—and perform consistently. Only then can he progress to India A and eventually the national team," the Indian star added.

Mohsin Khan's promising form in IPL 2026

Mohsin Khan, the 28-year-old young paceman, was first picked by the Lucknow Super Giants and has been part of the franchise since their debut season in 2022. However, despite being part of all these seasons, he has only played 28 matches for the franchise.

He played his first full season in 2022, where he played 9 matches and picked 14 wickets at a staggering average of 14.07 and an economy of less than 6. His next long season came in 2024 when he picked 10 wickets in 10 matches for the Super Giants.

Following his return to the side in 2026, after missing out on an entire season due to injury in 2025, Mohsin Khan has played just 4 matches and has picked 9 wickets, including a five-for in the last game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. He has been on a run this season, averaging 11.33 with an economy of 6.38.

Umesh Yadav's latest take on the possible selection of his former teammate, Mohammed Shami

When asked about whether Mohammed Shami, the former Indian teammate of Umesh Yadav, should be handed a chance to enter the Indian team again, Umesh expressed high praise for the LSG paceman.

"Shami is currently bowling at around 140 km/h and getting good swing. If he continues to perform at that level, then he definitely deserves an opportunity. When a player proves himself through performance, especially after consistent efforts, he should be considered for selection," said Yadav.

He pointed out that domestic players, be it Mohammed Shami or Bhuvneshwar Kumar, if they are performing well and consistently in domestic games, then they should be given a fair chance to make a comeback to the team.

"You can’t suddenly write off a player and say their time is over. Selection should be based on performance and fitness. If a bowler plays an entire Ranji Trophy season, performs consistently, and takes wickets, then he has earned the right to be considered. Whatever opportunities come his way, he should be given a fair shot," he added.
