While the entire cricket fraternity is praising Bhuvneshwar Kumar for his brilliant bowling spells against the Delhi Capitals (DC vs RCB), Kumar himself credits the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) legend Virat Kohli for the success.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who earned the nickname ‘Swing King’ from the Indian cricket fans, is currently leading the IPL 2026 leading wicket-takers tally with 14 wickets in 8 matches with an economy rate of 7.61. In those 14 wickets, 3 he added from the Delhi Capitals match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar explains how Virat Kohli is guiding the team from behind
Virat Kohli is mostly known for his batting and has led RCB and Team India on multiple occasions by chasing stiff targets. There have been endless discussions around the batting of Kohli, the former captain of RCB and India, but aa very few know about his influence inside the dressing room.
After the DC vs RCB match in Delhi, Kumar offered a hint of Virat Kohli’s influence over the team. Kumar, who is an ace, experienced bowler, also learns and takes motivation from the batting legend. The seamer points out Virat’s great communication skills, which not only help the batters but also charge up the bowlers as well. With his experience from batting and matches, the Delhi-born has become a source of inspiration for the players of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
It’s very important how he communicates: Bhuvneshwar Kumar
“I think, irrespective of what he has achieved, it’s very important how he communicates, how he talks. I think his experience with batting, if he says something, it helps a lot,” Bhuvneshwar said in a video released by IPL on X.
“If you have such an individual who has so much experience, then it helps in the team contribution,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kohli has achieved a significant milestone in his IPL career, completing 9,000 runs in the mega tournament. Kohli needed 11 runs to reach the landmark, and he got that with ease against the Delhi Capitals last night. In the very last ball of the power play, Kohli took a single off the DC captain and spinner Axar Patel to claim the record. He remained unbeaten for 23 off 15, and RCB won the match by chasing a paltry total of 76 with ease.
The pacer emphasizes the team game
Kumar reckoned that cricket is all about performing as a unit, a team game. For him, the result of the match is important. If he personally performs well, but the team somehow gets defeated in the match, then it will not be an adorable moment for Kumar.
“We generally look at performances from the result, but I don’t look at it like that because it’s a team game,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said.
“Sometimes if you are performing well, irrespective of the result or wicket… It’s very important to complement each other. If you are bowling well and someone is taking a wicket from the other end, that’s what matters,” he added.
