Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi finally arrived at the ICC headquarters in Dubai after several doubts were raised about him attending the ICC meetings, since the BCCI had threatened to escalate the Asia Cup trophy controversy.

India faced major trouble in the Asia Cup 2025, when they refused to take the trophy from the hands of the ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also holds a crucial role in the Pakistan internal ministry as well as in the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The PCB chairman's presence was posed to be under major doubt, given his record in previous such meetings and the recent controversy between him and the BCCI over the Asia Cup Trophy handover. Naqvi had not attended any ICC meeting, including the annual conference held in July in Singapore.

However, with the PCB as well as the ACC Chief's arrival, his participation in the ICC Board meeting on Friday has been confirmed. There has been absolutely no doubt that Naqvi, being associated with the Pakistani government, has been facing the heat over the unresolved issue regarding the Asia Cup trophy.

BCCI to escalate Asia Cup row on Friday

The BCCI, ever since the Asia Cup Trophy, has been constantly urging the Asian Cricket Council chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, to send the trophy over to the Indian subcontinent. However, Naqvi refused to budge an inch and said that the trophy could only be received by an Indian player sent over to the ACC headquarters in Dubai.

The BCCI had then informed them that they would make a clear move in the ICC board meeting and escalate the issue in the meeting, since they had rightly won the silverware and it is their right to bring it home.

After the first half of the ICC meeting concluded, the BCCI officials did not make a move regarding the matter in front of the ICC; however, with Mohsin Naqvi's presence, a strong deliberation is expected to emerge on Friday, with the elite panel reaching a conclusion over the matter.

BCCI announced venues for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026

The BCCI, on the other hand, made some choices over the selection of possible venues for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The Indian board will be hosting the World Cup alongside Sri Lanka and has shortlisted five venues for the same.

They have cited Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad as the major cities with the World Cup action, promising a pack of 5-6 matches in every city. Sri Lanka will be hosting all their matches and every match of the Pakistan National team as well.

The knockouts will be held in India, except for Sri Lanka and Pakistan, if they qualify for the knockout games. If Pakistan makes it to the final, then the T20 World Cup final will be shifted to Sri Lanka from India. The schedule for the T20 World Cup is to be announced soon by the ICC.
