The Asia Cup 2025 trophy, which should have already reached India after they thrashed Pakistan by five wickets in the final on September 28 in Dubai, has been caught in unexpected controversy. Instead of being with the champions, the glittering silverware is sitting inside a luxurious Dubai hotel room with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi.
As reported by Jagran News journalist Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister, is currently staying at a luxury hotel in Dubai and has kept the Asia Cup trophy there since the final after Team India refused to receive the silverware from him.
Asia Cup trophy stuck in Dubai hotel as Mohsin Naqvi refuses to hand it over
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is eager to have the trophy delivered to India from the UAE, and they have already begun negotiating through other Asian Cricket Council (ACC) member boards to ensure the trophy is with the champions, not Naqvi.

The BCCI has reportedly made it clear that the trophy is the property of the ACC and not a personal belonging of its president; therefore, it cannot remain with him.
Earlier, even the PCB chairman was requested to hand over the trophy to the Men in Blue through the ECB officials, but he refused.
Mohsin Naqvi told by BCCI to deliver silverware to ACC HQ in Dubai
Sources revealed that Mohsin Naqvi has now been clearly told that the trophy must be handed over to the ACC headquarters in Dubai Sports City so it can be formally dispatched to India, where the triumphant Indian cricket team is eagerly waiting to showcase it.
The drama doesn’t end here. The ACC’s pending Annual General Meeting, which could not take place in Bangladesh, has now been scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, in Dubai. But after the Pakistan minister’s drama, the BCCI has reportedly asked for the ACC AGM to be postponed as well.

Memes flood social media as Mohsin Naqvi’s condition delays trophy handover
Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team declined to receive the trophy from Naqvi, citing his recent anti-India remarks and political posturing during the tournament. Instead, the players asked that neutral ACC officials or ECB officials hand them the silverware.
An ACC official said the Indian team clearly stated they didn’t want Naqvi on the stage as well. The situation escalated when Naqvi reportedly insisted that he would give India their medals only if a formal presentation ceremony was organized; that stunned everyone and delayed the handover.
As the news broke, social media flooded with the hashtag #TrophyChor with memes mocking Naqvi. Amid the off-field drama surrounding the trophy, the Men in Blue delivered a masterclass on the field, crushing Pakistan to lift the Asia Cup 2025 in style.
Tilak Varma’s 69* guides India to thrilling Asia Cup 2025 triumph
Chasing 147 on a sluggish Dubai pitch, Tilak Varma stole the spotlight with a calm yet commanding unbeaten 69 off 53 balls. His fearless batting steadied the chase after the early collapse. Tilak found solid support from Sanju Samson (24) and Shivam Dube (33) that sealed the deal for India.
Earlier in the evening, it was Kuldeep Yadav who set the tone for India’s victory. The left-arm spinner unleashed a sensational spell of 4 for 30, ripping through Pakistan’s middle order just when they looked dangerous, restricting them to a modest 146.
