Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi met the Pakistan head coaches this week to discuss the roadmap for the team.

The meeting took place just days after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 where Pakistan had a forgettable campaign. The Babar Azam-led side failed to live up to the expectations and exited the competition at the group stage itself. Pakistan began their campaign with defeats against USA and India and even though they won their last two games, the damage was already done.

The poor display in the T20 World Cup has only extended Pakistan's poor run in recent months. Last year, they bowed out of the ODI World Cup at the league stage before suffering a whitewash in Tests in Australia. It was followed by a 4-1 loss in T20Is in New Zealand.

Babar Azam was then reinstated as the T20I captain but it did not make much difference as Pakistan drew the home T20I series against a second-string New Zealand side before losing a T20I against Ireland. It was followed by a series defeat in England before the T20 World Cup debacle took place.

After the disastrous campaign, Mohsin Naqvi had asked white-ball coach Gary Kirsten and selector Wahab Riaz to submit reports. According to reports, the report highlighted the players’ fitness, discipline, game awareness, and other important aspects.

After reviewing the reports, Mohsin Naqvi met Gary Kirsten as well as Test team coach Jason Gillespie and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood in Lahore. The PCB, on Tuesday (July 9), took to social media to give an update on the meeting.

In a video posted by the board, Mohsin Naqvi could be seen talking with Kirsten, Gillespie, and Mahmood. The PCB stated that the chairman and the coaches discussed about players' coaching, batting, bowling, fitness, and other important factors related to the team.

A decision was taken to formulate a comprehensive plan to improve the batting bowling and fielding of the players. The coaches and the PCB chairman also agreed on making fitness a prerequisite for selection in the team. Naqvi has also given the coaches free hand to deal with the players.

"Discussion on coaching issues of Pakistani players. Decision to formulate comprehensive plan to improve bowling and fielding. A player's inclusion in the team will be subject to fitness. There is no shortage of talent in the Pakistani team. Lack of good combination. Agree on meeting," stated the PCB.
