Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly instructed the other PCB officials to avoid issuing any statement or comments regarding India's participation in the ICC Champions Trophy next year.
As per recent reports, the PCB has given up on convincing the BCCI to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the marquee event next year. It now wants the ICC to handle the entire matter. And to make sure that no unnecessary controversy takes place, Mohsin Naqvi has told the officials not to give any statement on India's stance.
According to a report in the PTI, Mohsin Naqvi just wants to focus on preparing for the tournament and wants the ICC to handle the matter of convincing the BCCI. The report also stated that the PCB is assuming that India will be visiting Pakistan for the Champions Trophy next year.
"That is why in recent days there is no comments or statement coming from either Naqvi or any other board official on what will happen if India doesn't send its team to Pakistan," one PCB insider told the news outlet.
The PCB is taking all possible measures from its end to make sure it is well-prepared to host the tournament. The board has already submitted the draft schedule and all necessary documents, including security plans for each team, to the ICC. Mohsin Naqvi wants the PCB to just focus on the preparations and avoid talking publicly about India's stance.
"The PCB has sent the draft schedule and submitted all other documents including security plans for each team to the ICC now it is for the owners of the Champions Trophy to convince India to send its team," the insider said.
Mohsin Naqvi keeps cards close to the chest:
Another PCB source stated that Mohsin Naqvi does not want to reveal his strategy if India decide against visiting Pakistan next year. The source stated that the PCB chief recently met the Pakistan government officials and finalized a strategy.
"It is clear Naqvi doesn't want to show the PCB's cards on what will be the reaction of the board if India again refuses to send its team but behind closed doors after meetings with the government officials a strategy has been finalised," the source said.
India have not visited Pakistan since 2008 as the bilateral ties between the BCCI and PCB is suspended due to the political tension between the two nations. Although Pakistan visited India in 2016 and 2023 for ICC events, India have remained firm on its stance of not crossing the border.
