Mohsin Naqvi skips ICC meeting as PCB gets cold shoulder from governing body over CT controversy

Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), failed to attend the quarterly annual meeting of the ICC after the hosting of the Champions Trophy. The meeting was held in Harare but the PCB supremo decided against visiting the African country in order to deal with some pending personal business in Pakistan.

Apart from being the PCB chief, Mohsin Naqvi is also the Federal Interior Minister in the Pakistan central government. Recently, he was also named as the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). With the PCB president unable to attend the meeting, PCB CEO Sumair Ahmed represented the board at the ICC meeting in Zimbabwe.

"Mohsin Naqvi couldn't go because of work at home and Sumair Ahmed the board's CEO attended the ICC meetings," a PCB official was quoted as saying by PTI.

Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB gets the cold shoulder from ICC:

PCB was expected to seek an explanation from the ICC over the failure of the governing body of the game to have a PCB representative on stage for the final presentation ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. PCB were the official hosts of the tournament but no one represented them during the presentation ceremony in Dubai.

After the conclusion of the marquee event, the PCB had sent several reminders to the ICC, asking for an explanation for the snub. However, the ICC did not give any official response to the board. With PCB not making any statement even after the conclusion of the recent meeting, it looks like they were snubbed by the ICC once again.

According to reports, the ICC is unlikely to give any official reasons to the PCB as only the ICC chairman, board member or head of the state can be on stage for the trophy ceremony. The apex body of the game only praised the PCB for successfully hosting the tournament and declined to explain the reason behind the absence of any board official during the presentation ceremony.

PTI further reported that the ICC meeting had discussions over having a two-tier system for the World Test Championship. However, there is no clarity on PCB's stance on the matter. The ICC and the PCB are also yet to strike a deal over the financial matters of the Champions Trophy.
