India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, clinched the Asia Cup 2025 title by defeating Pakistan in the final at the Dubai International Stadium on September 28. However, Suryakumar Yadav’s side refused to receive the trophy from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
India recorded a five-wicket victory in the Asia Cup final in Dubai. The T20 World Champions remained unbeaten throughout the competition, defeating Pakistan three times, including in the final. India secured their ninth Asia Cup title - the highest tally achieved by any side in the tournament’s history.
India Refuses to Accept the Asia Cup 2025 Trophy from Mohsin Naqvi
India faced Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 for the first time after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The Men in Blue avoided handshakes with their rivals in the group stage. Mohsin Naqvi approached the ICC to sack match referee Andy Pycroft.
The Indian players didn’t want to receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi due to posts made by the Pakistan Interior Minister. Naqvi shared a Cristiano Ronaldo clip of a crashing plane and also an image titled “Final Day,” featuring Salman Ali Agha and Shaheen Shah Afridi in flight suits, with fighter jets in the background.
The Indian side agreed to take the trophy only from Emirates Cricket Board vice chairman Khalid Al Zarooni, but Naqvi refused, which pushed the ceremony nearly 45 minutes behind schedule.
While Abhishek Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, and Tilak Varma collected their individual awards, the main presentation didn’t take place. With no compromise reached, the event ended abruptly, and Naqvi reportedly carried the Asia Cup trophy back to his hotel room.
Suryakumar Yadav Donates Match Fees to Indian Armed Forces
Earlier this year, terrorists killed 26 tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. India responded with Operation Sindoor, targeting militant bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Fans and former cricketers had questioned the BCCI’s decision to participate in the Asia Cup 2025.
India faced Pakistan three times in the tournament and emerged victorious on all occasions. After the group stage win, captain Suryakumar Yadav dedicated the triumph to the Indian Armed Forces and expressed solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam attack.
Following the final, Suryakumar donated his match fees from the entire Asia Cup to the armed forces and to the families who lost loved ones in the Pahalgam tragedy.
Mohsin Naqvi Poised for Removal as ACC Chair
Subhayan Chakraborty, a journalist from RevSportz, took to social media to share a lighthearted remark about the ongoing situation. He made a joke regarding the changing leadership at the Asian Cricket Council amid the recent developments.

Naqvi joined the PCB governing board on January 22, 2024, following an appointment by caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar. He was elected unopposed as the 37th chairman of the PCB on February 6, 2024. Naqvi also worked as the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab.
