Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has slammed PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi after the latter claimed that he will take further steps on the cricket in the country after taking the suggestions of advisors.

The advisors are believed to be some of the former cricketers of Pakistan and the white ball head coach Gary Kirsten. After Pakistan's dismal outing in the T20 World Cup 2024, there have been talks of some wholesale changes in the country's cricket.

During an interaction with the media, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi was asked about the actions likely to be taken in order to improve Pakistani cricket. Naqvi had responded by saying that he would take advice from some of the former cricketers and Gary Kirsten.

"Advisors of Mohsin Naqvi are incompetent" - Shahid Afridi

According to a renowned sports journalist in Pakistan, Shahid Afridi clearly mentioned that the PCB chairman will be able to do nothing in Pakistan cricket if he keeps on listening to the advisors. He even claimed that his advisors have no idea about cricket and are incompetent.

"Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi will be able to do nothing if he ran PCB on the suggestions by the advisors because the advisors of Chairman PCB are incompetent and have no knowledge about cricket," Shahid Afridi was quoted as saying by Arfa Feroz Zake, a journalist for Geo News.

Afridi did not stop there and even asked Mohsin Naqvi to take one job at a time. Mohsin Naqvi is also Pakistan's interior minister alongside being the PCB chairman.

"Mohsin Naqvi is Interior Minister as well as Chairman PCB. This is right time for him to choose one job!" Afridi was quoted as saying by Arfa Feroz Zake.

Bad time for Pakistan cricket

Pakistan cricket is going through a huge turmoil at the moment. They crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2024 after losing their first two games to the USA and India. The loss to the USA was particularly shocking given the difference in the experience of both sides.

Despite winning their last two matches against Canada and Ireland, Pakistan finished with four points as compared to the second-placed USA's five points. As a result, they failed to make it to the Super 8 stage.

The Men in Green have been widely criticized since by the country's former cricketers and cricket experts all around the globe. Pakistan's captain Babar Azam is also under severe pressure and his captaincy is hanging by a thread. Pakistan's next assignment is the two-match Test series at home against Bangladesh. Before that, the PCB is expected to release the new central contract list in which massive changes are expected with one of the major ones being the promotion of pacer Naseem Shah to the A category.
