IPL 2011 was the 4th edition of the Indian Premier League. Two new teams Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala were added to the tournament and a total of 10 teams were part of the season.  Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers, and Delhi Capitals were the other 8 teams that participated in the tournament. Chennai Super Kings were the defending champions of IPL 2011.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders made it to the playoffs in IPL 2011 after finishing as the top four teams in the points table post the group stage. Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore locked horns in the final where the former emerged victorious. As a result, Chennai Super Kings won a second consecutive title in IPL 2011. A total of 74 matches were played among the 10 teams in IPL 2011. All these 10 teams smashed 20,981 runs in the tournament. Here we take a look at most runs scored by a team in IPL 2011.

10. Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals scored 1540 runs in the season, least than any other team. Shane Warne was the captain of the team in IPL 2011. RR finished on the 6th spot in the points table and hence could not book a berth in the playoffs. Out of 14 encounters in the season, RR won 6 matches and lost 7 while 1 match ended with no result. Rahul Dravid was the highest run-scorer for the team with 343 runs in 12 innings. Shane Watson was followed Dravid with 330 runs in 11 innings.

9. Pune Warriors India

Pune Warriors India scored second lowest runs in the season, piling up 1775 runs. They were led by Yuvraj Singh in the tournament. The franchise finished on the 9th spot in the points table after the group stage. Out of 14 matches, Pune bagged victory in 9 games and lost 4 while 1 match ended with no result. Yuvraj Singh was the highest run-scorer of the team with 343 runs in 13 innings.

8. Kochi Tuskers Kerala

Kochi Tuskers Kerala scored 3rd lowest runs in the season with 1901 runs. They were led by Mahela Jayawardene in IPL 2011. The team finished on the 8th spot in the points table. The team played 14 matches in the tournament, winning 6 and losing 8. Brendon McCullum piled up 357 runs in 13 innings, emerging as the highest run-getter for the team.  Mahela Jayawardene was the 2nd highest run-getter for the team with 299 runs in 13 matches.

7. Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders piled up 2023 runs in the season. The franchise was led by Gautam Gambhir in the season. KKR finished on the 4th spot in the points table post the group stage with 16 points and qualified for playoffs. KKR played 15 matches in the season, winning 8 and losing 7. The Gautam Gambhir-led side lost to Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator match and were ousted from the tournament. Jaques Kallis was the highest run-scorer for KKR with 424 runs in 14 innings.

6. Delhi Daredevils

Delhi Daredevils smashed 2031 runs in the tournament. Virender Sehwag led the team in IPL 2011.  The team came up with the poorest show in the season, finishing on the last 10th spot in the points table. The Virender Sehwag and co. played 14 matches in the season, out of which they won only 4 and lost 9. One match ended with no result. Virender Sehwag was the highest run-scorer of the team with 424 runs in 11 innings.

5. Deccan Chargers

Deccan Chargers accounted for 2140 runs in the season. The skipper of the team in the season was Kumar Sangakkara. The franchise ended on the 7th position in the points table after the group stage and didn’t qualify for playoffs. The team played 14 matches, emerged winners in 6 games, and faced defeat in 8 encounters.  Shikhar Dhawan finished as the highest run-getter for Deccan Chargers with 400 runs in 14 matches.

4. Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab smashed 2224 runs in the tournament. They were led by  Adam Gilchrist in the tournament. Finishing on the 5th spot in the points table after the group stage, the team failed to book a seat in the playoffs. The Adam Gilchrist-led franchise played 14 matches in the tournament, winning 7 and losing 7. Shaun Marsh was the highest run-scorer of Kings XI Punjab with 504 runs in 13 innings. He was the 4th highest run-getter in the tournament.

3. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians were the third-highest run-scorer in the season with 2288 runs.  Sachin Tendulkar was the skipper of the team in IPL 2011. With 18 points in their kitty after the group stage, Mumbai Indian finished on the 3rd spot in the points table and qualified for playoffs.  The Sachin Tendulkar-led team played 16 matches in the season, winning 10 and losing 6.

MI defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in Eliminator match but lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore in Qualifier 2. As a result, they ended on the 3rd spot in the tournament. Sachin Tendulkar was the highest run-scorer for the team and 3rd highest overall with 553 runs in 16 innings.

2. Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 2469 runs in the season and were the 2nd highest run-scoring team in IPL 2011. The team was led by Daniel Vettori in the tournament. With 19 points after the group stage, RCB topped the points table after the group stage and qualified for playoffs. They played 17 matches in the season, out of which they won 10 and lost 6.

RCB lost to Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1 game in playoffs. The Daniel Vittori-led side then defeated Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 and reached the final. In the final, they lost to Chennai Super Kings by 58 runs and finished as runners-up in the tournament. Chris Gayle was the highest run-scorer of the tournament as well as RCB with 608 runs in 12 matches. Virat Kohli was the 2nd highest run-getter of the team as well as the tournament with 557 runs in 16 matches.

Chennai Super Kings accounted for the most runs in the tournament with 2590 runs. Once again, the team was led by MS Dhoni, who has been the skipper of the team in every edition so far. The defending champions bagged 18 points and finished on the 2nd spot in the points table. They qualified for playoffs.  CSK outclassed Royal Challengers Bangalore in Qualifier 1 and final to bag their 2nd IPL title. The team played 16 matches in the season, winning 11 and losing 5. Michael Hussey was the highest run-scorer for CSK in the tournament, with 492 runs in 14 innings.
