IPL 2012 was the 5th edition of the Indian Premier League. In IPL 2011, 10 teams were part of the tournament as two new teams joined the league. However, Kochi Tuskers Kerala was terminated by BCCI ahead of IPL 2012 due to which only 9 teams participated in the 2012 edition. Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers, and Pune Warriors India were the 9 teams that took part in the tournament. Chennai Super Kings were the defending champions of the season.

After the group stage, Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders bagged the 1st and 2nd spot respectively in the points table. Mumbai Indians got the 3rd spot while Chennai Super Kings bagged the 4th spot. These 4 teams qualified for playoffs. Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings battled against each other in the final where the former emerged winner. As a result, KKR won their first title in IPL 2012. A total of 76 T20 matches were played among 9 teams in the tournament. 22,453 runs were scored by all 9 teams during the tournament. Here we look at most runs scored by a team in IPL 2012.

9. Deccan Chargers

Deccan Chargers scored the least runs in IPL 2012 with 2312 runs. Deccan Chargers were led by Kumar Sangakkara. The franchise played 16 matches in the season, out of which they won 4 and lost 11. One match ended with no result. Since they finished on the 8th spot in the points table after the group stage, they could not qualify for the playoffs. Shikhar Dhawan was the team’s highest run-scorer with 569 runs in 15 matches. He was also the 3rd highest run-scorer of the tournament.

8. Pune Warriors India

Pune Warriors India scored just 9 more runs more than Deccan Chargers in IPL 2012, piling up 2321 runs. The team was led by Sourav Ganguly in the season. Pune Warriors finished on the last 9th spot in the points table after the group stage. They lost 12 matches out of 16 and won only 4, failing to qualify for playoffs. Robin Uthappa emerged as the team’s highest run-getter with 405 runs in 16 innings.

7. Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab scored 2390 runs in the season. Adam Gilchrist was the skipper of the team in the tournament. The team finished on the 6th spot in the points table after the group stage and did not qualify for playoffs. The team played 16 matches in the tournament, winning 8 and losing 8. Mandeep Singh was the highest run-scorer for the team with 432 runs in 16 innings.

6. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians managed to score 2462 runs in IPL 2012. The team was once again led by Sachin Tendulkar. After the group stage, MI finished on the 3rd spot in the points table and reached the playoffs. They lost to Chennai Super Kings in the Eliminator game and lost the race to the final. Mumbai Indians played 17 matches in the tournament, out of which they won 10 and lost 7. Rohit Sharma was the highest run-scorer of the team with 433 runs in 16 innings.

5. Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore smashed 2472 runs in IPL 2012. The team was led by Daniel Vettori. After the group stage, RCB finished on the 5th position in the points table and could not book a berth in the playoffs. They played 16 matches in the season, out of which they won 8 and lost 7. One match of RCB ended with no result. Chris Gayle was the tournament’s and team’s highest run-scorer with 733 runs in 14 innings.

4. Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders smashed 2504 runs in the tournament. They were led by Gautam Gambhir in the tournament. The team finished on the 2nd spot in the points table after the group stage. The Gautam Gambhir-led side defeated Delhi Daredevils in the Qualifier 1 and then defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final to win the title. Out of 18 matches in the tournament, Kolkata Knight Riders won 12 and lost 5. One game ended with no result. Gautam Gambhir was the highest run-getter for the team with 590 runs in 17 games. He was the 2nd highest run-scorer overall.

3. Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals scored the third-highest runs in the tournament with 2516 runs. Rahul Dravid was the skipper of the team in the tournament. The team finished on the 7th spot in the points table after the group stage and failed to qualify for playoffs. RR won 7 matches out of 16 and lost 9 in the tournament. Ajinkya Rahane was the highest run-scorer for the team with 560 runs in 16 matches. He was also the 4th highest run-getter in the tournament.

2. Delhi Daredevils

Delhi Daredevils were the 2nd highest run-scorer in the season with 2645 runs. Virender Sehwag was the captain of the team in the season. After the group stage, Delhi Daredevils ended as the top team in the points table with 22 points and qualified for playoffs. However, they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 1 and then lost to Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 2 match and ended on the 3rd spot in the tournament. The franchise played 18 matches in the season, winning 11 and losing 7.  Virender Sehwag was the highest run-getter for the team with 495 runs in 16 innings.

Chennai Super Kings were the highest run-scoring team in IPL 2012 with 2831 runs. MS Dhoni was the skipper of the team in IPL 2012. The franchise finished on the 4th spot in the points table after the group stage and qualified for playoffs. They defeated Mumbai Indians by 38 runs in the Eliminator. Later, they defeated Delhi Daredevils in Qualifier 2. In the final against Kolkata Knight Riders, CSK lost by 5 wickets and finished as the runners-up in the season. CSK played 19 matches in the tournament, winning 10 and losing 8. One match ended with no result.  For Chennai Super Kings, Suresh Raina emerged as the highest run-getter with 441 runs in 18 innings.
