The 43-year-old Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legendary wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni was brutally slammed by fans after his horrible knock in the Indian Premier League 2025 match against the Delhi Capitals (DC).
MS Dhoni looked miserable with the bat in the 17th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 between the Chennai Super Kings and the Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Saturday, April 5.

MS Dhoni's retirement speculated
Dhoni has represented Chennai Super Kings from the inaugural edition of the competition and only switched teams in 2016 and 2017 when the franchise was banned from competition.
His retirement has been speculated for the last few years, but Dhoni continues to play, and stadiums are jam-packed to see the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman hit some sixes.
The retirement speculations of Dhoni reached their peak during the match between CSK and DC as Dhoni's parents were spotted in the stands.
Notably, Dhoni's parents have usually stayed away from the limelight and rarely attended the matches of their son. Looking at the sitting in the stands, even the Hindi commentators were surprised, with some of them saying that it was their first instance of seeing Dhoni's parents in the stands.
Soon, the former cricketers, experts as well and fans started speculating that the presence of Dhoni's mother and father alongside his wife Sakshi and daughter in this stadium was a hint that his retirement was around the corner. However, that didn't happen as MS Dhoni didn't make any announcement.
Talking about his performance with the bat against DC, he came out to bat at the No.7 spot and looked awful in the middle. Dhoni was unable to play big shots and eventually finished his innings with a score of 30 runs in 26 balls with one four and one six.
He was unable to finish the match for CSK as they were restricted to 158/5 while chasing 184 runs. Dhoni looked quite dejected as he walked back to the dressing room, but the fans were not kind and took to X to blast him.

My earliest memories of Dhoni's batting in the IPL was his breezy 65 v RCB. He had nonchalantly whipped Steyn in that game.

Dhoni is like my father - Matheesha Pathirana
Recently, the CSK pacer Matheesha Pathirana said that Dhoni is like a father figure to him.
"Dhoni is like my father, because of the support and the mentorship and the guidance he is giving me when I'm in CSK," Pathirana said. "It's very similar to what my father did in my home. That's why I consider Dhoni my cricketing father."
"No words about Dhoni. Really [like] god. Matheesha, how he respects [his] father, like that [he shows] respect to Dhoni," Pathirana's mother said.
