For the first time in the history of the marquee T20 league, the 5-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finished at the bottom of the Indian Premier League points table.

CSK finish poor IPL 2025 on a high
In their final match of the IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings went head-to-head with the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Opting to bat first in the match, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) delivered their best-ever batting performance in the ongoing season and registered one of their biggest totals in history - 230/5.
Overseas stars Dewald Brevis (57) and Devon Conway (52) slammed brilliant fifties, and they found great support from Ayush Mhatre (34), Urvil Patel (37), Shivam Dube (17), and Ravindra Jadeja (21).
With the ball, Chennai Super Kings looked dominant from the very start. They picked up early wickets and eventually bundled out GT for 147 in 18.3 overs to clinch an 83-run win.
Noor Ahmad and Anshul Kamboj bagged three wickets each for the Chennai Super Kings. Ravindra Jadeja got two wickets while Khaleel Ahmed and Matheesha Pathirana bagged one wicket each.
CSK achieve unwanted feats
Chennai Super Kings ended their IPL 2025 in the tenth position on the points table. They won four and lost 10 matches in the ongoing season and had a Net Run Rate of -0.647.
This was the first time the Chennai Super Kings finished at the bottom of the points table, and this was also the first instance of CSK missing out on the playoffs for two back-to-back seasons. Chennai Super Kings' previous worst campaign in IPL came in 2022 when they finished in the ninth spot.
Also, CSK lost against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at home for the first time in 17 years and against the Delhi Capitals after 15 years. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad beat the Chennai Super Kings in their own backyard for the first time in history.
I am happy, I am enjoying the game - Dewald Brevis
Speaking after winning the Player of the Match award against GT, the young batting sensation Dewald Brevis said that he is enjoying his game and is trying to have fun. He said:
"I am happy, I am enjoying the game, having fun out there. Need to be myself, need to be that kid who has always enjoyed the game while playing out there. Need to stay out there and enjoy every moment. I kept telling my mind, it's cool out there, not warm (conditions.)"
Dewald Brevis also spoke on his comparisons to AB de Villiers, stating that it's a privilege for him because de Villiers is his idol. He elaborated:
"When I went out there, I always wanted to play for the team. I needed to play an innings like that, I am very grateful for it. I need to keep playing that's what everyone has said. People have said that red ball cricket is the pinnacle.
"Need to keep playing and do what's right for your game. That plays a key role for batting a long time out there. It (being compared to AB) has always been a privilege, because AB is someone I look up to, he has helped in improving my game, but I want to be my own player, it's an honour to be compared to him."
